It's very worrying I aggree.
My PC is in the dining room witch is open plan with the kitchen so when my 11 year old daughter goes online, she is always in full view.
She doesn't do chat rooms-she's quite sensible and understands the dangers. All she does really is look at Buffy websites, plays online games, searches for song lyrics and talks to friends who she already knows on MSM Messenger. She's more into using the PC offline, writing stories, and practising stuff she's learnt at school.
They boy next door on the other hand, (12 years old) used to enter email addresses at random on his Messenger. It was like he had a competition to see how many contacts he could have. He would invite my daughter into his conversations with complete strangers, so I made her block him, which she didn't mind doing because he is a bit of an idiot anyway. I tried to warn him that he was being irresponsible, I even told his mum, who didn't see the problem until he was sent a virus that messed up their whole PC.
Someone also hacked into his profile and changed it to something really horrible and perverted.
He even spoke to someone who sent him a picture of the singer Mandy Moore who said it was a picture of them, which he believed.
When I pointed out to him that it said 'Page 66' at the bottom of picture he replied ''that's the name of the studio where she had the pic taken''!
It just goes to show how gullible children can be, so therefore I think children should be supervised and well informed.
Trouble is with kids today, they think they know everything.
