Incidentally, did you get grizzly Adams in the Uk back then? Mid to late 70's (I was dead young then honest!) actually I was born in 1970 but in my heart I still feel... um well 7 really...

I was thinking the same thing. About making me a cat person, I mean.

Don't worry about going off topic. The BB producers will probably be introducing a cat task next week.

Makosi seems to have nine lives anyway.

Hey, hey, now you're talking.

A man whose best friend was a bear called Ben, and an old unsuccessful prospector who has arguments with his best friend... a mule (called Number 7!

They don't make TV shows like that anymore!

I know it's not the 'quiz' thread, but for fun, does anyone know where the phrase 'to swing a cat' actually came from?

Isn't it the amount of room req'd to swing a cat o' nine-tails for maximum effect?

No I just love trivia, my head is so full of useless info that I have no room for the important stuff! Yep the quiet ones are the worst! Sorry Cam!

You probably have it already, but I thoroughly recommend Brewer's Dictionary of Phrase and Fable.

It's wonderfully light yet informative reading, packed with 'fancy that' info. Great for long journeys (provided you aren't the one driving!).

You can often find the budget version in discount bookstores within shopping centres, etc.

I think I do but when I last tried to catalogue my books I gave up at 600 so I'm never sure what I have till I look for it. (I had some vague idea about a spreadsheet), I've always fantasised about having a 'library room' in my home, somewhere I can go to just sit in an armchair on front of an open fire and drink wine or mango-juice and just read, surrounded by bookshelves and an open fire, a window leading out onto a garden - all on my own - bliss! A ground floor flat in the Gun capital of the UK Nottingham (which apparently is the gun capital of the UK outside of London) just doesn't seem feasible to do that right now, so I just piled them into reasonably tidy stacks... I really must buy some shelves! btw Alan, I know you can't have only one but what is your favourite book you read recently?

p.s I LOVE discount shops! I can't imagine paying high-street shop prices for anything these days. My bf is Indian and as you'll know, they're (sweeping generalisation here) generally quite shrewd and frugal. He makes me laugh the way every time I want something he knows where to get it 'from a friend who works there at a lower price' ::lol::
