BIG Brother bosses were blasted last night after giving housemates a terrified kitten to play with.

The RSPCA is furious at Channel 4 bosses for the stunt, shown in a highlights programme last night.

And Ofcom also received complaints from viewers after the tiny puss was seen cowering in a corner as the housemates screeched with excitement.

Simon Powell, television development officer for the RSPCA, said he had made an official complaint to Channel 4 and Endemol, the production company which makes the show.

He said: “The kitten was clearly terrified by being surrounded by these slightly freakish people.

How dare the animal lover call our HM's slightly freakish.

There's nothing slightly about them at all!

Good grief. Better not sell frightened kittens to anyone with kids then.

It looked pretty scared in this pic but I'm assuming it must have calmed down because I saw the pics of it playing too. It was irresponsible of them. The kitten would have been better off going to a house with kids, at least then there would have been a responsible adult to supervise the introduction. I think the HM's could have benefited with a bit of advice on how to receive the kitten so as not to terrify it which they obviously did.

They had advice.

ANY kitten ges scared for the first few moments in a new place with new people. I know as I have had many kittens over the years. Within a short time the [very confident and happy] kitten was playing and running around exploring. I too was very worried for the kitten when I heard that they were getting one, I went into my tense 'protect all cats in the world' mode but soon, I saw that s/he was fine....... and adorable.

Well to be honest, if someone buys a kitten from a shop, it's obviously going to avoid the people in the house and just cower in the corner, untile it gets to know and feel comfortable with the owner. Heading straight for the corner is just a natural reaction. I don't really see what the problem is here. They weren't making the cat more stressed out i presume, if not, then everythings okay. I will admit though, all of the housemates gathering around to see the kitten might have been too much for it, one or two should have probably just went over to it. I've had a hold of a kitten before, and it's been terrified in my hands, until it's gotten to know me though, and until i've gained it's trust.
