After eight weeks of speculation, TJ can finally answer the question on every Big Brother fan’s lips, is Science Jewish?

The 22-year-old rapper, who was evicted from the Big Brother house last weekend, sparked a furious debate among viewers on day two of the gameshow when he described himself as “a black Jew” and revealed he’d been circumcised.

The following week, Science, whose real name is Kieron Harvey, turned down the offer of a bacon sandwich, insisting “I don’t eat pork.”
Speculation abounded among avid viewers, but now the rumours can be laid to rest.

Speaking to TJ yesterday, the musician from Leeds, admitted: “Religiously I wasn’t born like Jewish. I’m not a part of no Jewish church or stuff like that.”

But he added: “I am a black Jew in terms of my ancestry. There’s a lot of mystery about my ancestry., who I am and where I originally come from. But a lot of people in Ethiopia are Jewish.”

So does he think he’s descended from the Falashas? “I don’t just think it”, he insisted. “I do know it, in my heart.”

And asked whether that was why he didn’t eat pork, he answered: “Definitely one of the top reasons, innit.”

Science also expressed an interest in exploring Judiasm . “I’d like to learn a lot more about it definitely”, he said, “understand what it’s all about.”

And despite the hardnosed image he presented in the house, he seemed genuinely delighted and grateful when we offered to send him some information about the Jews of Ethiopia. “Will you do that for me?” he enthused. “Thanks.”

As far as I know as well, you can be Jewish only if you born one. You can't join Jewish Church. If you're male you can marry Jewish wife and then your children are Jewish - not you.

I think he may have more luck with Marcus Garvey.

Are you sure you can't covert to Judaism? Quite a few tv shows I've watched over the years must have their facts very wrong if you can't.

You can indeed convert to Judaism. Most famous convert - Elizabeth Taylor.

That's what I have been learn to know with theologists and priests and those scientists that are studying religions. Of course everybody can go to their synagogas, wear like them etc. But real Jewism is that you are born to it no matter did you like it or not later on (or then you figure out that your greatgrandmother was Jewish, so you could be as well) - not converted. There are also many variations over Judaism, like in every other religion: for example they have had a law in Israel since 1970 that anyone who's born from Jewish mother or has converted to be Jewish and doesn't belong in any other religion at all, can have the citizenship of Israel if they decide to move permanently to Israel.

from my understanding a true Jew is one who is born a Jew not one who converts to Judaism. I may be wrong though.

Yes, I agree with you HC, but the law in Israel has perhaps made because it's ethnic and national religion if you decide to live there permanently and have their national identity. But after all that law is weird, because you won't ever be a true Jew really because you haven't born one.

I was listening to Justine Picardy on radio 4's 'Devout Sceptics' yesterday where she said her parents were atheists, but.. her dad was born into the jewish faith and her mother born into the christian faith.... she said, when she was a child her dad told her she couldn't be jewish becasue her mother was christian. I heard before the reason you can only be a jewish if your mother is jewish....is becasue no one can be ever 100% certain who the father of a child is.

It doesn't matter even if you're an atheist, if you have born to be a Jew you are a Jew did you want it to be or not (for example Freud, Marx etc.). That's why it's an ethnic religion. And that born only from Jewish mother -thing as well. But that makes wonder how masculine attitude they have in their rules, because that makes women to look a like untrustable what becomes to father(s) of their children! But after all it's so true
