Tottenham Conservatives hope fox-hunting toff Derek Laud from reality TV show Big Brother will return to challenge David Lammy at the next General Election.

Political speechwriter Derek, 40, has attracted a wider fanbase than most Tory leadership hopefuls during his six-week stint in the BB house.

And the chairman of the local Conservative Party, Justin Hinchcliffe, has said it would be a great coup' if Derek chose to return to the seat he contested in 1997.

He said: "It's possible that he would stand again as a parliamentary candidate in Tottenham, he would certainly have a high chance of selection. Derek was even more outrageous than he is on television, and certainly captured the hearts of our members.

"It would be a great coup for us, but I think Derek is old enough and ugly enough to know how the procedure works; he must come to us if he wishes to stand.

"We will invite him to Tottenham once he is released win or lose. There's a strong chance he'll win and we wish him the very best of luck."

In the build-up to the 1997 election, Mr Laud spent three months canvassing Tottenham in a bid to unseat Labour stalwart, the late Bernie Grant.

But he was forced to pull out of the race as he faced charges of drink-driving in the United States.

Mr Hinchcliffe added: "All the housemates in Big Brother are worthy of a dinner invite, but Derek stands out. He's incredibly intelligent, funny and a loyal Conservative."

Of course they will say Derek stands out, because he is one of them. They aren't going to criticize him, and then praise one of the others. They say that Derek is worse than that in real life, my god, the thought of it

It's a good thing really, because he's showing a whole new generation of people of why we hated Thatcher and his ilk so much :8o: It wasn't just a few people in a house who's lifes they ruined, but a whole generation. Which were now starting to feel the effects of, not being helped by Tory Blair, wanting to carry on there way of life. He's another one who needs to have a bloody good long hard think about the state of this country and what they are producing :-?

Knowing several journalists I would expect a huge muck raking exercise if Orlaiths treatment gets the full "Poor Girl" treatment.

Mr Laud has never been the sweetest of characters, as far as the press are concerned and there has been a lot in his past that will be resurected

This would be the same Conservative Party which roundly backed Jeffrey Archer as a London Mayoral candidate, with speeches of support from many Tory Big (s)Hitters. They didn't seem to care about Archer's (very long) list of crimes and character flaws either.

I would have loved to have seen Derek in a debate with Bernie Grant (RIP).

SENIOR Tories want Big Brother housemate Derek Laud to be given a starring role at their annual conference in Blackpool.

They believe Derek will reach out to ethnic minorities, gays and the young in a way most Tories cannot.

They want a barnstorming performance by the posh foxhunter to show the world the party has changed.

One young Tory said: "Anyone who uses the word 'ghastly' on a regular basis deserves our support.

"The strong element of arrogance he gives off could be a hindrance but to me it makes him more likeable."

One MP said a word from Derek "would shatter that old misconception that we are all either middle-aged white men or members of the blue rinse brigade. Why not give a platform to a real Tory, who has captured the public imagination better than we have?" Derek, 41, was dubbed the "dark deceiver" by Science in BB "for trying to manipulate and play a malicious game".

He used to be a political researcher and speech writer for Tory MPs. He tried to get selected as an MP but was unsuccessful and now wants to be an actor.

Another senior Tory said: "In a few weeks' time he might be the winner of Big Brother and we could end the summer with a glorious Conservative victory. It would be madness if we didn't use this for our own good."

Well said, steve_o!

Derek is an impressively scary reminder of the kind of people that ran this country in the 80's and 90's. Bigotted, racist, deluded and vindictive. . . But also clever, charming, well-off and well-connected. No offence to any other BBfan's, but I can't stand the sight of him and hope he goes soon. By the way, I have seen posts, here and in 'other places' that repeat Orlaith's claim that Derek is breaking BB's rules and getting away with it (typical Tory [soz]), can this be proven? If so, surely a campaign needs to be started to encourage the proper authorities to do the right thing and remove him from the building. In a rather more street-level argot, they should "kick his sorry-ass outta BB's crib, pronto innit?"

Well, I aarsk you . . . sneer sneer etc. :8o:

Somebody PLEEEASE get rid of that horrible little man, aaaaaaggghhh!!! :-(
I need to go and lie down fer a bit, now.

Can I say that if this is really Derek's way of promoting the Conservative party, I may want him to stay to the end to ensure that they are unelectable for the next twenty years........them selecting him for an seat would help even more!
