AN intruder and an old favourite were the latest housemates to leave Big Brother, after the reality show tonight served up a double eviction.

The over-exuberant intruder Rita and the bubbly Christie left the Big Brother house in tonight's show, in which all the contestants were nominated.
For blonde Rita, who donned a sexy black dress for tonight's program, the breaking of a fingernail spelt the end.

Rita earlier told host Gretel Killeen she was expecting to leave the house ever since breaking her last fingernail this week, something she described as a bad omen.

The departure ends a tumultuous three weeks for Rita, who clashed with the other intruder Melanie during the time on the program and also with other housemates.

"I talk too much," she admitted to Killeen before being given the chop.

The housemate also said she "couldn't handle the food in there any more," and had lost four or five kilos while in the compound.

But there were some tears of joy from the evictee when presented with a new car as a prize.

In the second eviction - unbeknown to the Big Brother clan until it took place - the bubbly Christie left the house.

Christie, who boasted she was "the package" during the time on the program, was ecstatic when her eviction was announced.

The carefree blonde said she enjoyed her time on the program, boasting that she had "taught Australia it's okay to live a little".

Christie had become a favourite with viewers for her famous phrase "I'm intellect" and her use of the word "confliction".

She also said she hadn't minded "walking around topless" for the cameras when interviewed earlier by Killeen.

"It just doesn't bother me," Christie said.

Just five housemates are now left in the Big Brother house.

Dean and one half of the Logan Twins, Logan David, were evicted earlier this week.

An animal welfare group is worried a former television game show contestant will not be properly investigated for alleged animal abuse because he is no longer in the public spotlight.

Glenn Dillinger, from Stawell, in south-west Victoria, boasted of killing a kangaroo while a contestant on the Big Brother TV program.

The claims have not been tested, but the RSPCA said it would investigate.

But the Wildlife Protection Council's Maryland Wilson says the RSPCA might drop the investigation now Mr Dillinger has departed the show.

"We want to know what the RSPCA is doing about it. If they are doing nothing, well let them say so - that they've decided they are not going to proceed further, or that they don't have enough evidence," she said.

But the RSPCA says it does not carry out investigations based on the suspect's level of celebrity.

A spokesman says investigations are continuing.

Sorry Ray, have not been anywhere near their show all week.

As far as I can gather it has not been as good as previous years but gets a big audience from the younger generation. Adults seem to deny even watching but I don't think they are being truthfull ::lol::

The Housemates seem to be the average 'nut cases' etc but they do get a bit more 'Let it All Hang Out' than we are used to over here. That is why the Australian Government are threatening to stop future shows

Financialy I think it has been a sucsess but the 'LIVE PASS' seems to have been a bit of a rip-off :D

THE battle for Big Brother 2005 is down to just four contestants after Kate left the Gold Coast compound tonight.

The confident brunette tonight became the latest housemate to be booted off the fifth series of the reality television show.
Her departure leaves Tim, Logan Greg and intruders Vesna and Melanie vying for this year's competition.

The grand finale of Big Brother will be held in a fortnight.

Kate was popular with many of her fellow housemates and also with viewers, but others questioned her supposed sincerity.

Many thought she was playing the game and she was also labelled a strategist during her time on the show.

But tonight she told Big Brother host Gretel Killeen that she was just "a very determined girl".

The evictee said she went into the house to "make friends in different states" and "have parties

DAY 91 - 18:53, 7-Aug-2005

Image

Just when you thought Big Brother had revealed all his secrets for BB2005, a very special guest is about to arrive in the country and go straight into the BB House. The winner of last year's UK Big Brother, vivacious Portuguese transsexual Nadia Almada, will have a thing or two to teach the final three HMs about taking a BB title.

Tomorrow night during the Big Brother: The Final Countdown special at 7:30pm on Ten, Nadia will surprise the remaining three HMs with an impromptu visit. Although the length of her stay is not yet confirmed, she will be sleeping in the House at least one night and getting to know the Australian HMs.

Nadia was a sensation in the highly controversial 5th series of Big Brother UK. For her entire stay in the House the Portuguese born bank clerk kept from her fellow HMs the fact that she was born a boy before having a sex change as a young adult. However, the audience, aware of Nadia's desire to be accepted for her personality rather than her sexuality, rallied behind her and in the end awarded her a whopping 74% of the final round of votes.

To meet Nadia, and see her exciting entry into the House, be sure to be glued to your TV set tomorrow night for the BB: Final Countdown special.

DAY 92 - 21:06, 8-Aug-2005

The excitement of a new face was almost too much for the housemates tonight as they fell over each other to quiz their exotic intruder Nadia.
When the intruder alert went off the HMs jumped up from the table and headed toward the backyard to welcome their new friend, thinking she would enter through the arena like other intruders. But Nadia came down the eviction steps behind them and was greated by squeals of delight from Vesna, who was excited to see another female.

After quick introductions they popped the bottle of champagne Nadia brought with her and started firing questions at their guest.

"What fragrance are you wearing? Are you from Spain?" asked Vesna. Nadia explained that she was from Portugal, but lived in the UK. "I'm not an intruder. I'm just a special guest."

She revealed that she was the winner of the UK Big Brother last year and the HMs took her on a tour of the house. Nadia was very impressed with the house and when the tour moved to the backyard she told them the house was much bigger than the UK house.

When BB announced that dinner was served in the "restaurant" the HMs headed out to the storeroom for dinner with their new friend, and plenty more questions.

MEET Nadia Almada, the British Big Brother winner who will enter the Gold Coast house tonight.

But not all is what it seems with the UK series five winner.
Nadia was born a boy and at the age of just 12 underwent surgery to become a woman.

Having won the hearts of British viewers with the story of her transformation, producers here have brought Nadia to Australia to liven up the last week of the series before the winner is announced next Monday.

The last-minute decision saw the network airlift the London-based bank clerk from Portugal where she was visiting family and onto the first available flight to Australia at the weekend.

She touches down on the Gold Coast this morning and goes into the house for three days.

She will not be eligible to win the show, will not receive any prizes and will talk openly to the housemates about her sex change.
So popular was Nadia in the UK, she won the show with 74 per cent of the nation's vote.

She has become such hot property veteran punk band The Gonads wrote a hit song, Nadia I Love You, dedicated to her.

From her high-pitched laugh to her hissy fits when her cigarettes were taken from her, the Brits have labelled her the "best contestant Big Brother has ever had".

In the overseas show Nadia explained why she didn't want to tell the housemates that she used to be a man.

As for showering naked in the house? All she wears is a pair of 10cm high heels.

Big Brother's new intruder - a transsexual who won the 2004 British version of the reality show - says she will not divulge her sexuality to the last three housemates unless it comes up.

Nadia Almada, a 25-year-old Portuguese transsexual, entered the Gold Coast compound on Monday night.

Almada, who won last year's UK version of Big Brother, lasted the entire time in the house without revealing to her fellow housemates that she was in fact born a boy and had undergone a sex change to become a woman when she was 12 years old.

And she said she plans to do the same this time, unless the issue came up in the house.

Almada, who arrived in Australia on Monday morning, said she didn't know whether the three remaining housemates - Tim, Vesna and Greg - would question her sexuality.

But she said she had no plans to volunteer the information upon entering the house, as she didn't see the point in it.

"If I'm approached, I have no problems whatsoever in saying yes I have this medical condition ... it's part of me," Almada said.

"But I'm not going to introduce myself with hi I'm Nadia ... blah blah blah.

"To me it's not an issue. I don't see its relevance."

Almada said she was one of the best behaved in the 2004 UK version of Big Brother.

"But I have changed," the intruder admitted.

"I'm a different person. I'm more confident."

The transsexual, who described herself as "very sexy", said she would be open to a bit of romance while in the house.

"Let's just say ... open to possibilities," Almada said.

She said she was unsure whether she was single at the moment, but had heard that the two male housemates left were "very good looking".

The grand finale of Big Brother 2005 will be held next Monday night.

Oz sees Nadia bawlin' Devastated ... Big Brother's Nadia

BIG Brother’s 2004 winner Nadia Almada wept on Australia’s show — after housemates guessed she was a transsexual after just TWO HOURS.

Nadia, 28, was flown over to spice up the final week of the Oz BB.

But in the diary room Vesna, the lone female in the final three, whispered: “She’s definitely a man.”

Dyed blonde Nadia — who has shed two stone — blubbed when confronted. Her secret was never revealed in last year’s BB.

YOU'D think those Big Brother evictees would have had enough of being locked up, but yet another of this year's contestants has landed themselves in jail.

Constance, the housemate who was kicked out after just 10 days in the house, has found herself locked up again after being charged with public drunkenness after a raucous party in Melbourne yesterday.

The Victorian hairdresser spent four hours behind bars after being arrested at 4am when police attended a party playing loud music.

Police said Constance argued with them and as they headed back to their car she followed them, allegedly daring them to take her in so they obliged.

Her arrest comes as another contestant from the show faces court in Cairns.

Simon "Hotdogs" Deering was charged with public nuisance after allegedly being caught with his pants down outside a nightclub.

Security cameras caught a woman allegedly performing oral sex on the former housemate.

Deering hasn't spoken to the media since releasing a statement saying he was "embarrassed and ashamed" about the incident.

DAY 93 - 17:30, 9-Aug-2005

............................... Image

The Australian HMs may not have been as politely tight lipped as their UK counterparts when it came to suspicions about Nadia's sexuality.
However, with the big question out of the way last night, the Housemates became completely relaxed with Nadia today and spent much of the day extending her a warm Aussie welcome.

It wasn't a particularly pleasant welcome for Nadia, and it's doubtful she expected to end up in tears on her very first night in the Australian BB house. But now that the HMs' curiosity has been satisfied and they've all had a good night's sleep, how is Nadia handling her first day in the Aussie BB house?

After a late night last night, Nadia proved to be not much of a morning person when she first rolled out of bed today. Although BB let the HMs sleep in until after 11, Nadia was groggy and grumpy when BB finally forced them to get up. Turning down the HMs' offers of breakfast, she donned a pair of mirrored sunglasses and made her way to the garden to sunbake in privacy, with barely a "good morning" to her hosts.

But after a healthy dose of Queensland sun, (and two cups of coffee) her mood warmed up and she launched into some friendly chit-chat with her new HMs. She passed around a peace offering of English sweets, filled the HMs in on her UK BB experiences, and gave them some tips on how to get through their final week in the house.

When the HMs started planning their eviction outfits for this weekend, Nadia jumped at the opportunity to offer fashion advice, suggesting to Greg: "Just go in your boxers or something. I don't think people will complain."

The HMs spent much of the day chattering to Nadia about everything that's happened to them over the last 13 weeks and Tim spent a good hour talking her ear off about Kate, but Nadia was keen to learn more about Australia, since this is her first trip down under.

The boys were quick to educate her about snakes, vampire bats, and drop bears (which Nadia thought sounded "cute") and Tim kindly assuaged her fears that a crocodile could find it's way into the BB house. "It's possible a crocodile could come in," he told her, "but very unlikely."

Greg went on to tell his fascinated guest that he used to have a job as a "swoosher" at Sydney airport. It was apparently his responsibility to "swoosh" all the kangaroos and koalas off the runway so the planes could land.

Tim then told the international guest that he used to carry a shotgun with him when walking to school in order to do shoot the wild native animals that would inevitably try to get in between him and his education.

But Vesna couldn't stand by and watch the boys' embarrass their guest any longer, "They're lying to you," she told Nadia.

Admitting that she's always been far too gullible, Nadia took the boys' joke in her stride, exclaiming with an indignant smirk: "Oh my god! I'm not talking to you guys any more. I'm going to ask to leave now!"

"Make sure you take your rifle," warned Tim. "It's dangerous out there!"

MY friend Simon and I often engage in intellectually charged frenzied analysis on ... Big Brother.

"She's evil, self-obsessed, demented and never stops whingeing," Simon said.
"That's exactly right," I said, "and that's why I think she'll win."

Yes, Vesna.

I have a theory that Vesna was planted in the house just to show us what we look like at least two days of any given month.

She's PMT personified.

It dawned on me the day she - after exhausting all her housemates with unwavering angst - found herself in the baby animal farm convincing the residents how ugly they were.
By bemoaning all tasks, the big man on campus, the food, the "concentration camp" conditions AND herself, Vesna is almost a cartoon character of Vesna.

She is the poster girl for giddily high-maintenance girls everywhere.

We love her!

And that's why I think she'll win the show - or come very close.

The weird world of Big Brother is governed by teenage girls with mobile phones.

They will, of course, admire Tim for being smarter than all the housemates put together including the alpaca (who comes a close second).

But Vesna is so painfully flawed and, more importantly, familiar, it's hard not to empathise.

She epitomises the classic Fat Day, gobbles up compliments and power-pouts the minute they go anyone else's way. She famously cried, "I can deal with not having my moisturiser but I can't handle being a slave to a man!"

She throws the uber-tanty you've always wanted to throw but didn't have the dinner plates for.

If there's something to whack, then she's behind it.

If there's something to eat, she will have eaten it already.

When mild-mannered Melanie won her weight in Tim Tams last week, instead of being happy for her Vesna surreptitiously whispered to Greg, "I'll steal them later".

She has that train wreck appeal - it's hopeless but we can't NOT watch it derail.

Of course, men don't get the Vesna thing.

She makes about as much sense as a slammed door and glitter lipgloss. Why bother?

Vesna literally makes Simon want to tear off his own arm just so he can throw it at the television.

But the BB website polls show Vesna to win at 46 per cent while Tim trails at 35 per cent.

Again, teenage girls are having their way.

Do they want a very clever/diplomatic journalist - who will no doubt write a best-seller on his experience in the house - to win $600,000?

Or do they want a hairdresser with serious self-esteem issues, fat days, a tragic pink tracksuit and a boa to win?

I think she'll be bum-danced across the finish line.

Reality TV is an unscripted soapie and the best lines don't come from the characters who hold it all together but the ones who let it all fall apart.

They remind us of who we are.

Rather, who we were and might never be again.

Now that we've met Vesna . . .

After five years Big Brother is still watching - and so are viewers.

The 2005 instalment of the reality TV phenomenon will go down as the most controversial yet.

This Sunday night, viewers will choose to oust bubbly hairdresser Vesna, aspiring journalist Tim or one half of the Logan twins, sales representative Greg, with voting being neck and neck at the moment.

The runner-up will then be evicted the following night.

If you thought you'd seen it all in the fifth version, the show's host Gretel Killeen says there is room for another Big Brother and it could bring with it even more surprises.

The 2005 Big Brother was controversial right from the very first episode.

It included lying, allegations of sexual harassment, bullying, animal cruelty and homophobia, full frontal nudity and sexual antics and even a parliamentary debate.

Killeen agreed the 2005 version of Big Brother "got off to a bang right from the start".

In the first week, housemates Constance and Nelson were booted out of the Gold Coast compound after it was revealed they had lied about having partners to scrape through their auditions.

Nelson later apologised to Australia's Jewish community for calling Big Brother "a Jew".

This was just the beginning of the troubles.

After five years of near-matches, it appeared a pair of love-sick housemates finally had sex in the Gold Coast compound in Big Brother Uncut, the late night risque version of the show.

Country boy Glenn and Gold Coast model Michelle were filmed getting hot and steamy in a bath.

Both later denied they did the deed.

But their antics, along with other incidents such as Michael massaging Gianna's shoulders with his ***** exposed, got the show in hot water with viewers, community groups and also federal parliament.

The Australian Family Association labelled the show "sewage television", while the Endeavour Forum, a pro-family woman's organisation, said Big Brother was degrading to both sexes, especially females.

Communications Minister Helen Coonan later asked the Australian Broadcasting Authority (ABA) to investigate whether Uncut complied with the TV industry's code of practice, and to check whether current mechanisms were enough to deal with reality TV shows.

This week, the ABA said it was still investigating three episodes of Big Brother Uncut.

Ten later apologised for the attitudes of some of its male housemates towards women, and attempted to tone down Uncut.

But the network was adamant the entire way through the show was never in danger of being taken off air.

The Uncut controversy died down slightly, but it didn't stop the housemates from getting into other trouble.

The RSPCA announced it would investigate Glenn, who became known as Shearer, over his alleged on-air boasts that he bashed a kangaroo to death.

Meanwhile, Kate denied she was homophobic despite saying the sight of two guys kissing in the reality TV compound was "disgusting" and made her sick.

Despite all the criticism, Killeen still thinks Big Brother is one of the greatest shows on the box.

"I think technically it's great television," the host said.

"Storyline wise, I think it's great. Characters, I think it's great."

Killeen said the beauty of Big Brother was that it also allowed people to discuss issues that mightn't ordinarily come up.

"It's reality television," Killeen said. "If reality television gives us a format, the different ways that people think and the different values that people have, then let's watch and let's talk about it.

"Everybody doesn't have to agree."

Producers of the 2005 Big Brother drew criticism after allegations they selected housemates which were mostly single and outspoken in order to create as much controversy as possible.

But Killeen denied this.

"The intention is not to be controversial," the show's host said.

"I think that was accidental."

However, she agreed the housemates were quite outspoken.

"They had a lot of dimensions," Killeen said. "There were a few exhibitionists.

"You could see from the minute they walked in there was just a little bit more of an edge."

The daily episodes of 2005 Big Brother drew over a million people, while the live evictions were watched by an audience of 1.5 million viewers.

Although Ten is still in negotiations about a 2006 Big Brother, Killeen said the show could keep going for a while to come.

"I think the beauty of the format is that I think it does allow the housemates and the style of the show to evolve," she said.

"That being the key to it, it's really quite open in terms of how long the show will actually be on for, because theoretically it will always channel into something fresh."

Killeen said Big Brother always had new tricks up his sleeve.

The 2005 Big Brother included a number of surprises such as the house's first set of twins, the Logan pair, several intruders including the last minute arrival of a Portuguese transsexual who won last year's UK show and double evictions.

And for the first time, housemates were fined by Big Brother for slip-ups, losing $5000 for each breach of the reality show's rules.

The show's prize money started out at a million dollars, but currently sits at $600,000.

Killeen said there was always room for new things on the show.

"Five years in now, housemates think they know what to expect," she said.

"They think they're understood. That gives Big Brother a lot more room for surprises."
