DAV'S GOT TO BIG GO

Aug 14 2005

BIG Brother 6 - The Final. And it's time to up that fire- work budget as we're treated to the flattest night in BB history.

Where everyone's scratching their head, staring at the floor or simply whistling nervously as Davina asks: "It's been brilliant hasn't it? Hasn't it?"

Davina. No. And no.

From Day 1 this series has stunk worse than the dog blanket in Steve McFadden's camper van.

In the very week it was revealed there are over 400 derogatory words in the English language you have to say: "That's still not enough!"

And as Anthony gets his nanna to count his money for him, and Eugene tries to find a psycho-analyst brave enough to tackle his extreme condomophobia, the bold BB facts are:

Celebrity Love Island was better entertainment and infinitely more memorable.

The series highlights package on Friday actually included a housemate opening a bottle of champagne. (Yeah, it made a noise and everything.)

The ratings have been the worst ever - down almost a fifth on last year.

The only time anyone felt a ripple of excitement on hearing that famous BB theme tune was when it was on Doctor Who.

No matter how many gallons of booze, fancy dress costumes, extra housemates and It's A Knockout games the producers threw at those self-obsessed cretins it was never going to improve. Ever.

And having classic housemates like Jade and Nasty Nick on 8 Out Of 10 Cats in between the final's two parts merely twisted the knife for viewers who have had to put up with this year's bowel-scrapings.

Then there's BB's voting figures from Davina McTooclosetocall. Who should have left last year. And now sucks like testing day at the Dyson factory.

Still an intelligent woman. Still a peerless female presenter. And, despite dressing for the final like a dinner lady going to a wedding, still an out and out fox.

But. She. Still. Must. Go.

Not just because her eviction interviews increased in piss-poorness to such a degree that when the crowd were yelling "Off! Off! Off!" on Friday I'm still not convinced their ire was aimed at Makosi.

No, it's her "comedy" impressions of the housemates which have really sealed Davina's fate.

She's Gory Bremner. She's Kate Bobbins. She's Phil Uncool.

But her very worst impression?

TV Host Who Loves Her Show And Isn't Just Simply Taking The Money Until She Gets The Cosy This Morning Gig In Three Years.

But while Davina concentrates on improving that one, the housemates will of course be frantically looking for TV work.

Anyone got a number for Dixons?

I read on Ceefax that Davina has rounded on critics of the show calling them 'pseudo intellectuals who have never even watched it'.

Big Brother host Davina McCall has called those who criticise her Channel 4 show "pseudo-intellectuals who have never really watched it".

McCall told Radio Times the show's contestants represented a balance of British society and were not "freaks".

The sixth series finale was watched by 7.7 million viewers, making it Channel 4's most popular show of the year.

McCall said she had signed up to present the next series, and could not imagine leaving the programme.

Channel 4 has already confirmed another two series have been commissioned, while Celebrity Big Brother will also make a return, possibly going out early next year.

Rowdy crowd

McCall said one of the only reasons she could think of for leaving is if producers started trying to manipulate people inside the house too much.

She added that she was under no illusions that it was a difficult job to do.

"It's easy to present - out with a very, very rowdy crowd talking to the camera," said McCall.

"But somebody would find it hard to come and do it - a bit like trying to fill Cilla's shoes on Blind Date."

McCall has an answer to the criticism that Big Brother routinely faces.

"The people who go into that house are a cross section of British culture. They're not freaks.

"Most of the people who put Big Brother down are pseudo-intellectuals who have never really watched it. If you do, it's a fascinating insight into life."

So, they didn't manipulate Housemates too much this time. But they did it anyway. What about next year?

Really? Where are for example people that have Indian, Russian, Chinese, Arabic or French backround? Or a Scandinavian nurse or an Au Pair? Or a Jew? Or someone who is from noble family? Etc.

You know as far as i can tell, BB USA was okay. There wasn't any unfairness to the housemates, yes there was back stabbing, yes there was a twist, but it never looked or felt like BB over there was being unfair or stooping low in any way. It never looked or felt like their BB was making them look cheap or stupid, just that they had put in a bunch of people that were going to back stab and talk about one another. I think the trouble with our BB producers, is that they want to try and make their's the ultimate. It seems to me like they are trying to top every big brother in every country. But, it's not just their fault either. The contestant's go to the auditions probably, saying that they'll do this that and the other, when in reality, they'll do sod all. I'd be quite happy just to watch an equal variety of back stabbing, sexy antics, and heated debates. This show has been good this year, and i'll be buying the DVD hopefully if they release it, but it hasn't been perfect though.

And she should know! Takes one to know one!

Her lack of watching the show (other than production briefings) was clearly evident. Its a shame, she definately watched BB1 & 2 thoughout and the difference inevitably shows.

Davina seems to be desperate to hang onto the BB job.:-?

Not suprising, as most of her other t.v projects, have bombed.

Makosi was hated because she's a silly little girl who was desperate to be famous.

Nothing to do with Davina.

Its interesting that she has felt it necessary to come out publicly defending herself. Perhaps Endermol are not happy with Miss Tainted-Goods either!

Jesus Christ - Davina before Dermot any day of the week.

Davina is Big Brother - as her salary indicates.

Dermot is a teaboy, promoted above his station.

Russell Brand has at least lived a life & might know what he going on about??
