Can someone exlain how they managed to audition 75,000 people. Even if each person had only one minute in front of the judges, that would keep the panel busy for almost six months!!

They don't...most don't get to see the actual judges.
It's usually the very best or the worst that get thru and I am sure they throw in a bit of mediocre for effect. Most are vetted by the production team (I believe)

i am sure the three judges would never sit through all those people. Like cc said, they only do the very best, and the very worst, for comic (or tragic) effect.
Cant believe the delusions of some people trying to get on there though....

Particularly as the judges spend so much time in 'Make-Up' before they even begin to meet the contestants...

Yeah CC, you're right. There was a girl on another forum who went along to one of the auditions and she said that they were really only looking out for those that gave 'entertainment' rather than talent on the whole which is a shame but I suppose it is for a television programme.

Have to admit to quite liking the earlier rounds though, it can be quite funny.

At least the panel members have got some experience and credibility to base their opinions on - I wonder what qualifications the researchers have?

If I was inclined to go to one of these auditions (not that I am inclined!!!) I would feel cheated if some nobody researcher was the one to rob me of my chance at stardom.

Still.....can always go and apply for BB7 instead!!!
