That's great! I've met children in families that where for example mom speaks Finnish, dad speaks greek and with each other the adults of the family speaks English. And children has learnt to speak three languages at the same time - every language is equal ability to the children! Childrens way to learn languages in their early ages is so natural! :angel:

I don't have any personal experience of this Mari but I so hope you are right! I hope nobody feels like they can't talk about babies or pregnancy on front of me because I don't mind people talking about their own babies or pregnancies because if one day we get to have children my partner and I would want them to speak 3 languages. Telugu, Hindi and English. I thought that Hindi and English would be easy - Hindi in the home, English outside but I'm not sure how to introduce Telugu to them ${ Or how we would go about raising children with three languages and not confuse them... ${

p.s sorry but isn't Finnish agglutinative language like Japanese? I'm not good at the semantics of linguistics (no pun intended! ::lol:: ) but it seems to have a similar structure base so I assume so.

Learning Japanese might seem hard but if you take it one chunk at a time then anyone can do it. Also, after learning that one, you can learn other supposedly 'difficult' languages far easier simply because so many languages have different 'structures' (told you I was no good at semantics) and if you learn one of any given family then I find that the others are MUCH easier bcz you have already learned the structure and after that it's just a case of remembering words! Kippis! :D

I guess that you're partly right - but the closest languages to Finnish are Estonian and Hungarian. I agree with you that fact that when you've learnt one structure of a language it'll be easier to learn another language that belong to same family.

Kippis! = Cheers! ;)

Yksi olut, kiitos! No I'm not a language savant I just found this site http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/getwriting/A362170#1 but it's not really cheating as long as I memorise them after I've posted them...? Is it? ... :-? ::lol::

Oh anteeksi! all I can remember is anteeksi - sorry and hauska tavata - nice to meet you. I'm not going to cheat and look but - where is the toilet - um, mina ona vessa... bugga bugga bugga! hmmm needs work!

edit: just checked and I already knew it was wrong but I was determined I would not correct it before posting because that would be cheating! So if I change my sig to a different phrase every few days maybe it'll kind of sink in by osmosis or something! ::lol::

p.s what is the difference between ' a ' and ' ä ' in how you pronounce it please? :D

missa on vessa! *Repeats several times to self! My work is very menial, boring and doesn't use the brain! The only way I stay sane is to learn foreign phrases off my colleagues and try to memorise them as I work by repeating them constantly and occasionally repeating them back to the person who speaks that language so that my brain doesn't turn to jelly from doing such a dull dull dull job! A trained-monkey could do my job, they'd prob accept an untrained monkey too but they'd pay it peanuts! :D ;)
