WINNER of Big Brother Anthony Hutton launched the new-look salon where he trained to be a hairdresser yesterday.

He opened Saks, in Front Street, Chester-le-Street, following its week-long £25,000 makeover.

The former postman from Consett, County Durham, was mobbed by young fans of the show, in which he won £50,000.

He agreed to be the guest of honour at the salon's relaunch as a favour to manager Kirstie Barrass, who trained him while he worked there.

She said: "It has gone fantastically well. He is a lovely lad. There must have been 100 kids under ten and he had time for all of them.

"He only planned to stay five or ten minutes, but he was here nearly two hours."

Mr Hutton was joined by his mother, Annette, and grandmother, Mary, who was treated to a makeover

Since leaving the Big Brother house, he has been made Ambassador for Young People in Derwentside and agreed to switch on the Christmas lights in his home town.

Anthony was due to re-open the salon tomorrow and I was wondering what would happen as The Match also starts tomorrow. I'm glad he still managed to do it a week early. Sounds like he had a lot of time for the youngsters which is really sweet.
