We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver details Here

It is available in books shops at the moment and can be pretty cheap if you shop around. Anyone is welcome to take part in the book club and discussion. I think male readers could like this one too.

Synopsis
''Two years ago, Eva Khatchadourian's son, Kevin, murdered seven of his fellow high-school students, a cafeteria worker, and a popular algebra teacher. Because he was only fifteen at the time of the killings, he received a lenient sentence and is now in a prison for young offenders in upstate New York. Telling the story of Kevin's upbringing, Eva addresses herself to her estranged husband through a series of letters. Fearing that her own shortcomings may have shaped what her son has become, she confesses to a deep, long-standing ambivalence about both motherhood in general and Kevin in particular. How much is her fault? Lionel Shriver tells a compelling, absorbing, and resonant story while framing these horrifying tableaux of teenage carnage as metaphors for the larger tragedy - the tragedy of a country where everything works, nobody starves, and anything can be bought but a sense of purpose.''

well I've just read Thomas the Tank engine for the millionth time DXY. He really is a naughty engine

anyway back to the book. I'm over 100 pages into it now and I am finding it a brilliant read so far. I don't think it will take me very long to finish, I can't put it down. I'm dying to start discussing it. It has already thrown up some interesting points to think about/discuss.

Thomas the Tank is quite pointless and boring unless you are a train enthusiast. Horrid Henry and Captain Underpants are much more interesting, though Henry is a little git.

HC I have already read this book so can discuss it with you when you are finished. Though we need to make sure we don't give anything away.

I haven't heard of those poems pikey. I will look out for them.

My son always asks me if I would rather he was Horrid Henry or Perfect Peter and we always agree that we prefer Henry. At least he has a bit of spirit. Peter is just a little tell-tale, cry baby, wimp.
