The Farm, the TV show notorious for a scene in which Rebecca Loos pleasured a pig, is being axed by Five, which is not commissioning any new reality shows.

The channel's director of programmes said the reality genre had "been and gone". The RSPCA, which regularly criticised the show as "reckless" and "irresponsible", welcomed the decision not to commission a third series.

The Farm was made by Endemol, the production company behind Big Brother, and in its most recent incarnation featured minor celebrities such as the jilted boyfriend of EastEnders actress Jessie Wallace, as well as Orville the duck and American porn veteran Ron Jeremy.

The RSPCA has urged viewers to boycott the show after a scene in the first series in which Loos, famous for an alleged affair with David Beckham, extracted semen from a pig.

But the second series, in which models Emma Noble and Emma B massaged the private parts of male turkeys, failed to make an impact or stir up much controversy.

Presented by makeover duo Justin Ryan and Colin McAllister, the last series averaged about 1.5 million viewers.

Five's other experiment in the same genre, Back to Reality, which featured ex-reality TV stars, received a drubbing from critics and was not recommissioned.

Earlier this year, Five announced that it was axeing its long-running soap Family Affairs. Today it said it would be concentrating its efforts on home-grown comedy and drama.

Five's Director of Programmes Dan Chambers told a Broadcasting Press Guild lunch that Channel 4's Big Brother was on the wane and that reality was past its peak.

He said: "I'm not going to do another reality show. The Farm made sense for us but for me reality has been and gone now."

An RSPCA spokeswoman said: "The Farm was shabby television and was irresponsible because of the real danger, distress and suffering it caused to the animals, all in the name of entertainment. We would support the making of a TV show which would reveal what farm life is really like.

"There is scope for an educational programme, rather than an entertainment programme. There is no need to use animals in this gratuitous way, purely for ratings."

Five is increasing its programme budget to more than £200 million next year, up at least £10 million from the £190 million already signed off for this year.

One of the most recent reality launches - ITV's Celebrity Love Island - was initially criticised as dull and pointless but became more popular.

COLLY NICKED

COLLY HELD BY POLICE

SOCCER star Stan Collymore was arrested last night after arguing with Australian police following a row with British backpackers in a night club.

The former Liverpool player was held after failing to leave when uniformed police asked him to "move on" outside.

Collymore, 34, had been in the Woolshed club in Cairns, Queensland, with his new girlfriend, who he met on his Australian publicity tour, when he was taunted by the tourists.

Bouncers asked Collymore to leave and threw out the Brits before calling police.

Outside he protested to officers that he was the innocent party but they told him: "We don't want to know, move on." Collymore kept on insisting he was the victim of the early hours bust-up and was arrested.

The Woolshed is a favourite with British backpackers. The sleazy club has a wild reputation with its website featuring pictures of near-naked men and women dancing on tables.

Cairns police said: "A 34-year-old English tourist was arrested outside the club.

"He was charged with contravening a 'move on' direction after behaving in a disorderly manner. He has been ordered to appear at Cairns magistrates court on Friday." A close friend of Collymore's said: "People who saw what happened say Stan was minding his own business when he was heckled by a load of British backpackers.

"There was a bit of a row and they all got thrown out. The police arrived and Stan had a few words with them so they threw him in the van and locked him up."

Collymore was shamed in 1998 after beating up former girlfriend Ulrika Jonnson in a Paris bar. And last year the Mirror revealed he went "dogging", where people have sex in public watched by strangers. Mirror

Club Foot

“IF your name’s not down your not coming in,” barks the charmless club bouncer. “And no Prada trainers.”
Shoe!

It’s true. The Sun says that doormen at Manchester’s Sugar Lounge nightclub have been ordered to refuse entry to any punters wearing the expensive designer footwear.

It seems local gangs have adopted the trainer as part of their uniform.

The paper says this is potentially bad news for Sienna Miller and Madonna, who own such shoes. And it might be disappointing to Stan Collymore.

Not that Collymore’s has much trouble getting into clubs; the former footballer’s problem is staying in them.

The Star says that Collymore was allowed into the Woolshed club in Cairns, Australia, where he became involved in a row that got him thrown in jail.

Eyewitnesses accuse Collymore of being “blind drunk, abusive and a pain in the arse”. It’s also alleged that he called a local a “paki” and a “wog”.

The club’s bouncers asked Collymore and the group of Brits he was arguing with to leave. Collymore refused. Police were called. And Collymore is said to have asked them: “Don’t you know who I am.”

Had the Star been around it could have given Collymore a full answer to his question, telling him and the police that he was Collymore the former England footballer, Collymore the man who beat up ex-lover Ulrika Jonsson and Collymore the dogger.

But the Star was not on hand to help. Unable or unwilling to answer, the police bundled Collymore into the back of a squad car.

And now Collymore is Collymore the accused – he’s been ordered to appear before magistrates on Friday to face a public order charge.

And he might be wearing trainers... anorak

Stone backs Collymore for Hollywood stardom

Actress Sharon Stone has tipped former footballer Stan Collymore as a Hollywood star in the making.

Collymore makes his movie debut with her in the sequel to Basic Instinct.

The shamed star is trying his hand at an acting career after a troubled few years.

The opening scenes of Basic Instinct 2: Risk Addiction show Stone and Collymore in a liaison which ends with their car plunging into the River Thames.

The pair did their own stunts – which almost ended in disaster when Stone’s stiletto heel became caught in the floor as she struggled to escape from the submerged car.

Speaking at a press conference to launch the film, Stone, 48, said: “Working with Stan was so extraordinary. He is the loveliest, most chivalrous, most charming and most professional person.

"And because of that, when this incident happened I felt really confident that we would get out of it.

“I’ve done a lot of stunts in movies and I have never done anything that was as difficult or demanding as this sequence.

“It was physically very difficult to be underwater for so long and it’s also really daunting to have that drowning effect over and over again, it’s psychologically very oppressive.

“You can’t do that unless you are partnering someone you really trust. We built a really solid bond of trust.

“We were each other’s life support to make that scene work and to literally survive what was a really dangerous stunt. There’s no one I would have felt safer with than Stan.”

Stone turned up to the press conference at the Four Seasons Hotel in central London wearing a white fur coat, knee-high leather boots – and nothing else.

Basic Instinct 2 sees Stone reprise her role as bisexual killer Catherine Tramell 14 years after the original.

Set in London, it stars British actor David Morrissey as a psychiatrist hired to assess Tramell’s mental state.

The film promises even more nudity and “kinky stuff” than the first film.

The actress said the movie proves women over 40 can be sexy.

Stone, recently signed as the face of Dior skincare, said: “I think it’s so different in Europe where you have only to walk down the street and remember you’re a woman.

“In America we tend to erase women after 40, and it’s a period when women become their most interesting. They are sexual in a different and alluring way.

“This film expresses that sexual allure in an unabashed and provocative way, in a way that is gritty and dangerous and quite presumptive.”

Of her new modelling contract she said: “I think it’s really extraordinary they have hired someone in their middle-40s to represent skincare.

“Women are being recognised and noted and seen as sexually viable. I feel incredibly complimented and grateful, not just for myself but for other woman, that this page has been turned.”

Stone described Morrissey as “gorgeous and witty”.

Asked why she had chosen him as her co-star, she replied: “Jesus, look at him! I knew he was the one.”

Morrissey, 41, best known for TV dramas The Deal and State of Play, said he was undaunted by the sex scenes in the film.

“I think it would have been a bit weird of me to go for Basic Instinct 2 and think, what, you want me to take my clothes off?” he said.

“The sex scenes tell a story. The film has a cracking script.”

The world premiere takes place tonight in Leicester Square. breakingnews
