It's madness! To be afraid of using the word 'black' implies that there is something wrong with being black! That is more offensive than ANY tongue in cheek joke about (for example) a white friend came back off holiday and had an amazing suntan and another work-mate said - 'blimey you've got a better tan than Sharon' - Sharon being black, chuckled and said 'yeh we're sisters!'

When people are so paranoid about using certain words I wonder if they've got something to hide! :-?

I'm sure I read somewhere recently that an organisation had decided that to avoid offending any non-Christians, the meaning of BC would not be "Before Christ", but "Before Creation" instead.

Absolutely ridiculous. I think most people would find it offensive that something that has been known as "Before Christ" for so long, could possibly be changed, just to avoid the possibility of others being offended. Bloody daft.

So why do it if there is no point to it?

Do you not think that Hindus would be up in arms if we cancelled Diwalli? Or Muslims for Ramadan?

I'm very cynical about the motives of these people who make such decisions. There was a case recently where Pro-Hunting supporters plotted to join GreenPeace en masse to sabotage the organisations direction from within and it wouldn't surprise me at all if some of the people making such ludicrous laws were playing devils advocate and in fact were members of Right Wing groups who actually wanted to create racial/religious tension.

I've yet to find a Hindu or Muslim who is offended by Christmas and I've yet to find a Christian who isn't 'up in arms' about the suggestion that it should be 'banned'

These ludicrous decisions actually create prejudice and hostility between the different cutures / races / religions and I find it hard to believe that the people making these decisions can be so naive as to be unaware of that fact.

Hows it been cancelled exactly, can you still buy Christmas decorations, cards, presents et cetera, just calm down, some politically Correct wassock decided this, probably because he/she/it/hermaphrodite enjoys people getting worked up about it, don't react and they'll go away. Can't walk in WHSmith without Happy diwalli cards, or advent calenders for Ramadhan.

If you want to argue with my point, answer the question, "how will it directly affect you?" :D

I dont want to argue, mate ()^

It wont directly affect me, unless you count the fact that Im a religious lad who finds it offensive that its being shunted to cater for the minority.

Why do it if its not going to affect anyone.

Do you think that non-Christians go home offended when they see a bit of tinsel?

Non Christians DON'T go home offended when they see a bit of tinsel! And if it's being shunted to cater for the minority then I don't think you should blame the minority in question but the idiots who make those ridiculous decisions!

I don't want to argue either btw! I just don't understand why anybody could be offended by another persons celebrations or why anybody would feel they have the right to dicatate what another person should believe :D

GRRRR

I'm out gunning for the PC brigade today. We've a situation in my school which just defies belief, and it's all down to PC nonsense. Obviously I can't go into details, but you couldn't make it up.

All these ways of skirting round issues, and trying not to cause offence to anyone actually means that you end up causing offence to EVERYONE!!

Leave well enough alone, that's my motto!

Well said that lady!!

I know a few Muslims and I've asked a couple what they think of all this insulting to other cultures mullarkey and they think it's as ridiculous as I do. It's disgraceful to see what is being printed in the Daily Express at the moment.

Don't know if any of you watched it but The Wright Stuff this morning had this as it's main subject and Piers Morgan (who went up in my estimation when presenting it this morning) was outraged that the subject had even come up because it was so farcical. The only person who had any doubt in the whole room and on via email and on the phones was panelist Lowry Turner who was all for calling Christmas Lights Winter Lights instead but her point was more that Christmas has become more about money that tradition.

Christmas means an awful lot to me and always has, I'm not having people tell me what I should and shouldn't call it or celebrate. We shall celebrate everything about Christmas whether they tell us we shouldn't or not and quite frankly, I say bollocks to all who say otherwise.

Indeed.

I dont aim my anger/frustration at the Muslims or Hindus or whoever.

Its aimed at the tosspots at the council and in government.

Another piece of toss is that they cannot call them 'manhole' covers.

Instead they are 'maintenance entry shafts'!!
