Aberdeen is getting set for a double dose of festive cheer this weekend, with TWO parades and the Christmas lights switch on to look forward to.

Thousands are expected to flock into the city centre on Sunday (Nov 20) for the launch of the Festive Aberdeen programme - with the traditional Mall Trinity Santa parade in the early afternoon, then a grand parade to mark the Christmas lights switch-on in the late afternoon.

The Mall Trinity event - a traditional Santa Claus and reindeer parade, which also features Chris Chittell, who plays Eric Pollard in Emmerdale - leaves Castlegate at midday and makes its way up Union Street to The Mall Trinity. The reindeer can be visited there all afternoon.

Visitors will also be delighted to get a close-up view of characters from His Majesty's Theatre's Jack in the Beanstalk pantomime - Miles Jupp ('Archie' of Balamory fame), who plays Simple Simon and Michelle Potter, who plays Princess Apricot - who will travel in an open top bus. Unfortunately, Cameron Stout is not available to feature in the parade this year.
