The former contestant from I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here joined forces with mayor Latif Khan to push the plunger which lit up the High Street on Thursday.

Thousands of visitors looked amazed as a five minute firework display was set off from nearby Wellington House.

Peter then wowed fans by belting out four songs including ‘Mysterious Girl’ which he was initially reluctant to sing.

Speaking to the audience, he said: “It is not my favourite but this song just doesn’t die, it keeps going on and on and on. ”

Fans also got a sneaky peak at new material from his upcoming album when he sang RnB influenced ‘Go’, which was recorded at his home studio in Brighton.

Locals also met the Australian born star when he walked around the venue to sign autographs. This included visitor Carol Page , 46, of Slough, who popped down with her daughter Patricia, 23, and granddaughter Shannon, six.

She said: “It’s been really special. We came down especially for Peter because my daughter has always followed him and now her daughter adores him.It has been well worth it despite the cold.”

Councillor Khan, said : “Everyone’s been enjoying themselves tonight, you just have to look at the crowds. It’s also nice to see that everyone from all walks of life has come out.”

The event also showcased local talent including dancers from group Motivation who entertained crowds beforehand. thisisslough
