In his own words: Derek Laud is a writer and broadcaster.
He was described as "the star" of this year's Big Brother programme and is a well known conservative. He is a former professional speechwriter and has contributed ideas for speeches for Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher. In addition he was a campaign aid to The Rt. Hon John Major's leadership campaign in 1990. He has been public policy adviser to a number of leading businesses, including ING Barings, British Steel and more recently to Sir John Beckwith CBE, chairman of Pacific Investments PLC. Derek lives in London and is a keen tennis player and regular horse-rider. He writes regularly for a number of newspapers, including the Independent on sunday, the Mail on Sunday and Daily Telegraph
