Well it'll seem like it if this is true:

Big Brother 7 to last 13 weeks?

Filed: 17:13, Jan 26 2006 by Neil Wilkes

The next series of Big Brother will last a record thirteen weeks, according to various reports today.

The extension of a fortnight - up from last year's eleven weeks, which was itself up by one week on the year before - would take the total duration to 92 days.

The reports also claim that the start date, traditionally the last Friday in May, will be brought forward to the start of the month to better combat ITV's Celebrity Love Island.

Channel 4 has thus far refused to comment.

I was struggling by the end of BB6. They'd have to choose HMs very wisely, I don't think I could take 92 days of arguments.

Most of the other series outside the UK are about 105 days.
Last years BBOZ was 100 days and was great viewing from the first show to the last so a lot of it is down to the mix. But even with the best planning the producers never know how the chosen contestants to get on until they meet. Some work some don't. Moving away from the more extreme characters and getting back to the more normal everyday types that were so successful in earlier series I think would work better and probably attract a wider viewer audience. The best series both from the UK and abroad have had the less extreme type of contestant. As I've said before on here during UKBB5 and 6 I followed the OZ series as for me it was better viewing with HM that were easier to relate to. But you also have to have the right tasks and conditions. The HM need things to keep them occupied so the don't become bored and sleep all day as so often happens.
With the right mix plus tasks plus a lot of careful planning we could see a another 'must see' series. Get it wrong and you have less viewers and less voters which equal less money for them .And we the viewers start finding better more interesting programs to watch.

CLI is such trash that in my mind it doesn't compete at all. Having said that, BB will have to make some new efforts this year to avoid the same criticisms it's been in for recently.

Just had a thought ,will the ban on smoking in the work place be inforce when BB7 starts as surely as the contestants are being paid for being there and are contracted to Endemol the house for the period of their stay is their place of work so they won't be allowed to smoke.

I can just imagine the 7 plonkers who rang up police to complain about Pete's 'gorilla' coat frantically dialling 999 to demand police, fire and ambulance crews get down the BB house quick as someone just lit a cigarette and smoked it. ::lol::  ::lol::

Yes it will be interesting if the contestants enter the house without knowing of the ban. Well actually they'd find out just before going in when they discover they aren't allowed to take cigarettes in.

But smoking is banned on TV in some countries. BB OZ for instance is one example and during her stay in the OZ house Nadia wore nicotine patches which considering the amount see smoked here must have been difficult for her.

Two problems solved in one.

WTF, ITV's Celebrity Love Island is coming back for another run? lol. Talk about recycling junk.

As for BB7 duration. If they'll gonna do 92 days...they should go all the way to the 100 day show. Start a touch earlier in May...and take it through right to early September.

Of course, start off with maybe 14 loony toons...and then keep the same basic winning format as usual.

As another ref the current Norway / Sweden series is set to run 114 days which I think is similar to last year. This the max duration outside of Germany of any country.

If they do their homework and the HMs get on in the way the viewers like a long duration show might work in the UK. If they get it wrong there won't be many viewers left by the end. But as I think is printed in the BB3 book until the HM meet nobody can predict how they will react. Too many loud people will cancel each other out resulting in them becoming almost normal.

I suggest that BB7 has a completely new format. They should scrap the auditions and remove all cameras from the house. Also axe Davina, nominations, evictions...in fact most things normally associated with the BB format apart from live coverage of Spencer Smith when he's asleep, as one of the cameras that would otherwise be in the BB house (to be converted into an all-you-can-eat bistro) would be moved into Spen's bedroom.

Also BB7 cameras should be installed in England's World Cup dressing rooms to cover whatever Sven does at half-time.
