Brazilian locals saw a plastic bag floating in the river and in sympathy decided to rescue the cat or dog. On film (by an amateur camera-man) they managed to use a big stick to drag the bag to the shore and open it. When they did, they found an 8 week old baby girl! They took off her wet clothes and wrapped her in a jumper and she is recovering well.

Having watched the film on several news channels I can only say that the baby had some escape.

Let's hope the authorities catch the woman who threw her into the river and lock her up ..................... for the rest of her life

I agree with Molly - thank God they found the baby.

I don't know anything about the mother, - if she did it, and if so, what state of mind she was in, so I will reserve judgement.

They reported on TV that they had found the mother, she had left the baby with some vagrants and asked them to get rid of it for her

The most important thing is that the baby survived unharmed. I hope the mother gets the psychiatric help she needs and I wouldn't comment on that as I don't know the story but I assume she is mentally ill, otherwise how could she do that?

I've never had post natal depression but my mum did so I ended up raising my brother and sister myself from the age of 8. (they were 5 and 1 and I'm still a dab hand at changing nappies or nagging kids to get their homework done!) Lets hope that she gets the support she needs and isn't left alone with the baby until she recovers enough to know what she is doing.

The baby is ok and I'm sure that's the main thing to be bothered about.

You should be everybody's mother Molly.

You are always level-headed, wise and compassionate.

Echo what everyone else has said, thank God the baby is alive and well.

And you are right Molly, the mother clearly needs help too.
