EXCLUSIVE Junkies to do cold turkey on Big Brother-style show
A SHOCKING TV show featuring heroin addicts doing cold turkey in a Big Brother-style house is to be shown on Channel 4.
The programme - fronted by newsreader Krishnan Guru Murphy - is to be aired later this month.
Addicts will be monitored 24 hours a day as they try to give up. Experts predict sparks will fly when the contestants' bodies are ravaged by the effects of quitting the Class A drug.
A source said: "It's an unusual idea, but it's a great chance to show people what it's like to quit a drug like heroin."
The show, called Cold Turkey, will be filmed in a clinic near Harrogate, hours Yorks, and starts its five-day run on February 20. Last night DrugScope spokesman Harry Shapiro said: "We have expressed serious concerns.
"Heroin addicts are incredibly vulnerable people and we are worried they could be exploited."
But Channel 4 bosses denied the show would put the contestants at risk.
A spokesman said: "We are hoping to inform youngsters about the harsh reality of beating drug addiction."
