Hopefuls line up for TV stardom

Scores of fame-hungry hopefuls queued early today for the chance of becoming the next Big Brother stars.

Despite the freezing temperature, the budding contestants at St James' Park were dressed in outfits including a heavenly devil and a pink cowboy.

One contestant in line before the doors opened at 9am was in pyjamas.

Programme-makers from Endemol UK are in the city hoping to find exhibitionists for the seventh series of the reality show, to start in the summer.

And all those waiting today are keen to follow in the footsteps of 24-year-old Anthony Hutton from Consett, County Durham, who netted £50,000 after winning last year's Big Brother 6.

Leo Talbot, 24, of Newcastle, said: "I would make everyone laugh and put the character back in the house. I would love the adventure."

Michelle Meakin, 33, of Carlisle, came to the audition dressed as a devil with wings. She said: "I have the kind of personality for BB. I'm a big extrovert and I like to dress up and stand out."

Mark Jameson, 19, of Newcastle, said: "I want to be famous. The world would love me. I'm quite shy but I come out of my shell. I got up at 2.30am to come but it'll be worth it if I get in."

Ophila Upp, 22, from South Shields, said: "I've watched it since it began and I don't think the show has seen anyone like me before."

Simone McKee, 19, of Newcastle, who turned up in pyjamas, said: "I think I am loud and crazy enough. I'd love to go in and cause lots of trouble. I got some funny looks on the way here, but I don't care."

Sonia Nixon, 18, of Hebburn, braved the cold in a pink cowboy outfit. She said: "I want to show my personality. I'm going to bring some femininity to Big Brother."

Each hopeful will have a few minutes to meet the show's producers and explain why they would make a great housemate. If they are selected for the next stage they have one minute in a diary room to sell themselves whatever way they like.

Executive producer Claire O'Donohoe said: "Newcastle is one of our biggest locations - last year we saw about 2,000 people. People need to stand out from the crowd, but ultimately they should just turn up and be themselves because that's what makes great housemates like Anthony."

I've decided to go to the London auditions. Going with my mate Pete, who is a slight loon, so I expect it will be as much fun as last year!

I'm expecting the "well she's just trying to be Chantelle" comments, just cos I have long blonde hair, like my lippy and my belts, lol!

Good luck nicki. I hope you enjoy yourself.

As you say though, the fact that you've got long blonde hair etc may go against you because of Chantelle, but you never know!

Yes ,have fun again Nicki.

I think I might find myself getting told off this year. I have a couple of radios which I'll have with me. One will have a mic and ear piece that goes well with the jacket. The other just a ear piece while it does it's job. The 1st one which isn't a scanner has all the known frequencies that BB has used which it's set-up to scan. The other one ,my new toy ,has a feature where if anybody keys a radio in the same building it instantly locks on to it allowing the details to be stored. Once it has identified the as of yet unknown channels it'll be turned off. The trouble is if the cotton on do the politely say 'turn that off' or will they say 'on your bike' ?

Believe it or not I am being myself. I do wear a hi-viz jacket to work and I do carry radios with me when I go out. I don't have them on display and the mic is normally inside my jacket. But I am a geek and I love electronic toys. I said I was eccentric earlier ,and one day you might get to see.

I've started getting the usual from the family about why I want to do the show and they don't think I should.

One potential problem is if I get through the Saturday part and get to do Sunday is that I'm supposed to be filming a Baptism Sunday morning which I won't be able to do. This could cause some tension.

Well...to get noticed...

I'd say to just don't act like the other loony toons, which will be around 99.86% of the crowd.
The ones that don't act up...will stand out like a mushroom cloud over Tehran.

A CHANTELLE lookalike joined an army of Big Brother wannabes at an audition in the North-East at the weekend.

Celebrity Big Brother winner lookalike Steph Turrell, 18, queued with hundreds of fame-hungry hopefuls for the chance of becoming the next reality television star.

Despite the freezing temperature, the aspiring contestants at St James' Park, Newcastle, were dressed in outfits which included a heavenly devil.

And one contestant in line before the doors opened at 9am was still in his pyjamas.

Mark Jameson, 19, from Newcastle, said: "I want to be famous. I think the world would love me.

"I am quite shy, but I do come out of my shell.

"I got up at 2.30am to come here, but it will be worth it if I get in."

Ophila Upp, 22, from South Shields, South Tyneside, said: "I have watched it since it began and I don't think the show has seen anyone like me before."

Simone McKee, 19, from Newcastle, who turned up in pyjamas, said: "I think I am loud and crazy enough. I'd love to go in and cause lots of trouble.

"I got some funny looks on the way here, but I don't care."

Each hopeful was given a few minutes to meet the show's producers and explain why they think they would make a great housemate.

If they are selected for the next stage, they will have one minute in a replica diary room to sell themselves in whatever way they like.

Executive producer Claire O'Donohoe said: "People need to stand out from the crowd, but ultimately they should just turn up and be themselves because that's what makes great housemates like Anthony."

Previous North-East Big Brother contestants include Michelle Bass from Dinnington; Narinder Kaur from North Tyneside; and County Durham firefighter Johnny Regan.

Cheers guys...I think Cal is right...the best way to get noticed is not to act like a mad lunatic like everybody else.

and yes dermitage48, I will be doing 2 of my links from the RDS in Dublin but that's it...god knows what mad yokes I'll end up talking to?

I went to the Glasgow auditions,
got there very early about 7am - 8am

I was expecting to see a huge line of people but there
were actually only a few hundred people,
probably because it was really early in the morning,
I was chuffed to be near the front :D .

Stood with a group of strangers and just talked about auditioning, past series of BB, what we did for a living etc.

Once I got into the bulding one of the first people to get through the first stage was a man in a caveman outfit! ::lol::
there were some other wacky folk their too.
::lol::

It was now my group's turn to speak to the producers, I was the first to tell them a bit about myself and why should be in the house, I was unprepared! ::lol:: so I did'nt get through...
they picked the loud, charismatic ones which is ok, I had no
intentions of going in the house anyway, I auditioned purely for the experience, it was a fun day!

better luck next time. ()^

You won't be talking to me, 'cos I've decided End'em'all don't quite deserve to get their hands on me - yet.
