My daughter has to have braces she was told today. She's not best pleased but I told her to think of her lovely smile when it's all done.

As for now.....Image

we laughed our heads off at the pic though. We saw it ages ago then forgot about it. Then Katie said today 'I'm gonna be like the wanna kiss girl' and we were just creased up laughing. You had to be there I guess

I had a brace when I was younger (about 11-12 ish) but the dentist who did it was a vile sub human creature and ****** it up royally and now my teeth are a little bent at the bottom.

This the same dentist who a week earlier took two of my teeth out without anaesthetic (sp) which caused me so much pain that my mum nearly swung for him!

Aww, I had braces when I was 14 / 15 (which was really late - something should have been done sooner, but I had a shoite dentist).
Tell Katie that it's one of the best things I ever did! I had the single strip of metal that goes across the top teeth, and it had to be held in place by plastic in the top of my mouth. (I've forgotten what they're actually called, lmao!)

You get used to them really quickly. It's definitely worth it. My teeth are pretty straight now - they were horrendous before I had my brace, cos I used to suck my thumb when I was a bubba, which pushed my two front teeth out, lol!

there are other types of dentist?

oh and you missed out the words "money grabbing" and other words which possibly wouldn't get past the swear filter

That's not necessarily true, I was with a girl who has train track braces on a plane a couple of weeks ago and although we both freaked out before going through the scanner thing before every flight (her because of her braces, me just because i generally freak out about these things  ) and she never set it off. did get a random bag search though but that's another story...

Hope your daughter's alright about it HC.

It's called a retainer I think.All I remember was eating a toffee with it in.Very stupid!!
I wore braces from 13 to 15,but should really have had them earlier as they weren't as effective as they should have been.I was very late losing my milk teeth and they won't do orthodontic work till the adult teeth are in.My eldest 2 are about to have theirs fitted and I'm hoping that it will be before the orthodontist joins our dentist in withdrawing NHS treatment!

My current dentist is an arrogant so-and-so who thinks the whole world revolves around his dental practice.

When my milk teeth fell out one of them came out while I was chewing a toffee. The tooth actually fell out into the toffee...
