Jumpin' Jade Flash
Pre-race favourite Jade soared to victory in the Water-Ski Jump, while Adam managed his first ever clearance and finished third.
Jade never looked in danger. He tackled the ramp with aggression, sucked up the landing and held his balance superbly. And while he looked disappointed with his distance of 9.1m (below his PB), it proved enough to beat his closest rival Peter by 1.5m.
Jade may have taken the five points, but Adam had reason to be even happier with his third-place finish. Having barely trained in the run-up to the event, he produced his best-ever jump with a cracking time of 7.2m, narrowly missing out on second spot to Peter.
Adam looked nervous as he approached the ramp and wobbled on the landing, but managed to stay on his feet, and he punched the air in delight as he skied away. He also gained an extra point for getting a PB time.
Plat'num just managed to keep his footing to finish in fourth place with a distance of 6.4m.
JK was the only athlete who failed to make a successful landing. He looked good in the approach but lost control as his skis hit the water.
Jade paid tribute to Adam at the end, "I'm excited I won but Adam has done amazingly well, it's his first ever clearance."
Adam was relieved, saying, "A few days ago I didn't think I'd be able to do it. It's my third jump ever, and I've never landed before."
Will Adam be a challenger in the competition after all? After tonight's display, anything is possible.
