LONDON (Reuters) - JK Rowling's latest teenage wizard tale -- "Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince" -- was named Book of the Year on Wednesday at the British Book Awards.

Rowling, who has sold more than 300 million copies world-wide, was able to reassure young readers around the globe that the final book in the Potter saga was on target.

"I am enjoying writing the last book in the series and it's coming along nicely," she said.

Rowling fought off an eclectic band of authors to land the prize -- they included Sharon Osbourne for her autobiography and celebrity chef Jamie Oliver for his book on Italian cooking.

I wonder will I EVER get round to reading Harry Potter books, or watching the films.

They just don't appeal to me at all.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince was a good book, nowhere near as good as the 3rd or 4th in my opinion but it was better than the 5th.

Trying to remember exactly what happened, I think I've got some of them a bit muddled! Watching the 4th film this week (in three parts...) I was thinking "was that bit REALLY in the 4th one?!"

Same here vagabond. I have a couple and feel I 'ought to' read them but don't have any great desire. I haven't seen a single film or read a single page of Harry Potter. maybe I will get around to it one day but I have so much other stuff to read and things just jump the queue.

No - I've read them all too

The Order of the Phoenix was incredibly dull but this last one got better. Just got to wait for the last one now.... :-(

hi milly :D

that's the one thing i really remember about the last book - when Harry and DD have to row out to the middle of the lake (and see what's under the water), then the ending.

It will make a stunning (if scary) film.

I think the last book is going to be very strange. Really can't imagine Harry not being at Hogwarts.

Looking forward to it though :D

I agree with you Milly, I hope my questions are answered too. I had to keep reading the last few chapters for clues, especially regarding Snape.
The Goblet of Fire is still my favourite book though.
