Big Brother winner Anthony Hutton was taken to hospital after being beaten up on a night out.

The 24-year-old reality television star was partying at Manchester's trendy Baby Grand nightclub in the early hours of Sunday morning when the brawl broke out.

He was treated for cuts and bruises on his face at the Manchester Royal Infirmary and later discharged.

Police said a man had been arrested on suspicion of assault and bailed pending further enquiries.

Anthony, from Consett in County Durham, won £50,000 last summer after the British public voted him their favourite contestant in the 2005 Big Brother house.

His most notorious moments from the Channel 4 show were his friendship with clingy gay hairdresser Craig Coates and his swimming pool liaison with Makosi Musambasi.

Since leaving the house, the former '70s-style nightclub dancer has released a keep-fit DVD and appeared in panto in Darlington.

On Monday, a spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police said officers had been called to Peter Street, in the city centre, on Sunday morning following reports of an assault.

She said: "Officers went to Baby Grand at around 4.10am where a 24-year-old man was found with minor facial injuries.

"He was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary for treatment and was subsequently discharged. A 25-year-old man from Higher Poynton was arrested at the scene on suspicion of Section 47 assault. He has been bailed until May 7, 2006 pending further enquiries."

Just spoken to Anthony - he's going to the hospital this afternoon for a final x-ray to check his nose is ok. When he regained consciousness he couldn't breathe through his nose because of all the blood. His eye is also swollen but he's fine on the whole. He's ok and very straighforward about it all, he's not a vengeful character imo.

Poor old Anthony - at least he's more interesting than Makosi, Eugene, etc.

I think Eugene was great and he should have won.

ATTACK: BIG Brother winner Anthony Hutton was taken to hospital after he was beaten up at a Manchester nightspot.

Anthony, 24, was on a night out at the trendy Baby Grand in Peter Street when he was in a fight in the early hours yesterday.

It is understood that a brawl broke out after a man accused the reality television star of looking at his girlfriend.

Anthony was taken by paramedics to Manchester Royal Infirmary with cuts and bruises at around 4.15am. A police spokesman said officers had arrested a man on suspicion of assault. The man has since been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Dancer

Anthony, from Consett in Co Durham, worked as a 70s-style dancer in a nightclub before he entered the Big Brother House.

He won £50,000 after coming out top in the Channel 4 show last summer. During his time in the house he became famous for making references to his love of the ladies and lack of domestic skills.

His friendship with clingy hairdresser Craig Coates and brief liaison with Zimbabwe-born Makosi Musambasi helped generate votes which kept him in while others were being voted out.

He recently released a keep fit DVD and finished a season in pantomime in Darlington.

Glad to hear he is OK but what a terrible thing to happen. I hope the low life who did that is feeling really proud of himself

Hope that Anthony recovers well from the attack as it is a horrible thing to happen to him.

${ And nobody wants to hear the opinion of this so called girlfriend about what has really happened by then. :-? That's so male-attitude ;)

This could have happened to Anthony without taking a part to a BB Show in any night club any time - I guess.

But that's why so called Celebs should have a chance to be really V.I.P guests of Nightclubs with their own limited area, because certain common people just can't behave themselves correctly. Is it time to hire a body-guard or just learn some Krav Maga skills?

I'm glad that Anthony will be fine and I wish that that kind of situations wouldn't happen ever again.

That's a good point Mari A - I hadn't looked at VIP areas in that light before.

Thanks. It's a habit that everybody should learn themselves when they grow up - to get along with each other in every situation, any place as well. I believe in equality, but there are places and situations where safety comes first and you'll just have to take it into consideretion before you 'dive in'. Anthony has got that kind of looks and way to move (because of his dancing backround) that makes certain people (like jealous boyfriends when they are drunk or in narcotics) easily see the 'red light' and get angry almost not for a reason and attack. It's also opposite - when a female got the looks and way to move - that makes other women aggressive towards her. And you haven't had to be so called celeb at all when you see that happen around. It's one of the positive points of being 'ordinary' and having 'ordinary looks' - because that keeps you out of the troubles caused by other people usually. ;) Just some common sense. What else ever happens in VIP areas - sex, drugs (overdozes) etc. without Paparazzis between and with huge Egos that's another point of view - but at least Celebs don't fight with each other in there.
