Apparently if you're at a red light that has a camera fitted and a police car/ambulance/fire engine wants you to move and you have to cross that light to make way, you will get the fine and the points and when you appeal you will be told that by crossing the red light that you could have caused an accident and lose the appeal, regardless of the fact that you was thinking of the poor sod/sods that the emergency services were trying to assist. It happened to someone my other half works with.

Controversial as it may be, but I have no issue with speed cameras or them being used to raise money (something they don't actually raise an awful lot of surprisingly).

This may be more appropriate for the Come the Revolution thread, but here's my ploy if I was in charge. Raise tax revenue by taxing those who break the law.

No one disagrees with the speed limit. We agree its in place for a reason. So what's the issue with things put in place to help enforce it?

So every person who is found guilty of a criminal offence has to pay 1% more on their income tax over the next year. Perhaps there could be a sliding scale depending on the severity of the offence.

And people who have not been in trouble with the police for a period of 10 years or more get a 1% reduction.

And yes, I've got points and a fine after being done for speeding. I still regularly speed but I'm honest enough to realise that if I get caught its the fault of me not of the speed camera.

yeah I thought that too but my hubby knows someone who lost his appeal for crossing the red light. I wonder if there's a way of finding out exactly what the law says, cos my other half told me not to move out the way if there's a camera!
