my claim to fame..

I was moored up on a pontoon off Folly Inn up the Medina on the Isle of Wight (near Cowes) when a boat about 40ft long with sails up and no motor running attempted to come along side to moor up...(no one moors up on sail alone unless the motors broke)... anyway I could see what was going to happen as five foot of bow sprite headed straight at me while yellow wellied clods on deck just starred at me. so I yelled first off "is your engine broken " answer "no" ... "switch on now then or your never get the bow into go into wind " no answer... their boat is repidly comming closer and still not turning away , so I shout " mate switch your ******* motor on or piss off and come around again" no answer boat and bow still heading straight at us, am now watching helmsmen put helm full over to try and bring bow into the wind, of course as i knew it didnt work, tide and wind against him and no motor on ... i then start calling him all names under the sun, vaguely remember saying something like "you tosser i wouldnt let you comand a plastic duck in your bath" as his boat crunches hard into the side of us and scrapes down the side of us . lukily I managed to push him off with a mate by grabbing the bow sprit and watched as he crashed out of control into a boat moored behind us all the while the dolts manicaly trying to start the engine he should of had on in the first place ,..... anyway a voice from behind me pipes up after I`d yelled a fresh tirad of comments at the dolt ,,"Do you know who that was" nope i said ," that was Sandy Woodwood, the Admirial that master minded the fleet that took back the Falklands Island ...

You probably had to be there and know the person who said it to find this as funny as it really was but I will post it anyway.

This is a boy who always (I do mean always) thinks he's correct... today these two young guys were in the shop and I was serving them. Not in the habit of looking in people's wallets and purses so never noticed but once the guys walked away he said "do you know who you just served?" I said "errrr, no" and he went "he plays for the Dons" (Aberdeen FC). I said "oh right, who was he?" and he said "I don't know but he was wearing an Aberdeen training jacket (it didn't look anything like a training jacket) and had plenty of money in his wallet".

I just about burst out laughing... I was like "how on earth does that make him a football player?"... the boy said "well, he could be a subsitute"

I knew it was a bit obscure Jezi.....basically he's an old Somerset jazz player who had a number one hit in the 70s with a slowie instrumental called Stranger on the Shore.

A bit of a rubbish claim to fame really, but it's not every day you get someone who's had a number one single in front of you at the checkout.

I met Michaela Strachan whilst wandering around the artists' market in Montmartre, Paris. She was sat having a coffee with a film crew. She's even more gorgeous in real life (and no, I hadn't been stalking her. Not since the restrictions were enforced anyway).

I used to work with Greta Scacchi's mum in Sydney.

I was in the same class as Alan Devonshire (legendary West Ham midfielder)'s nephew.

Also bumped into some singer called PJ Lewis during a press conference in the Hard Rock cafe in Kuala Lumpur. I didn't know who he was but he came up to ME coz I had a Liverpool FC shirt on (apparently he had a hit with 'Sweets for my Sweet'). That last one is really stretching the fame connection (as if the first three aren't ).
