The family of Big Brother 06 contestant David Graham support the Queensland farmer over his coming out on national television.

A proud Linda Graham, 32, pleaded with the public to judge her younger brother David on his personality and character rather than his sexual preference.

The 26-year-old international model kept his sexuality private when he entered the house but came clean on Wednesday night after Victorian nightclub worker Camilla took an instant liking to him.

"Some people are shocked because he doesn't appear to come across that way," Linda told AAP.

"But just because you're gay it doesn't mean you have to be any different from anyone else.

"Why judge? Ninety-nine per cent of his friends and family are very proud of him."

Housemates stand by their man

Big Brother's resident gay farmer has finally come out of the closet! Last night, after awkwardly fumbling his way through the housemates' speed dating task, David decided enough was enough and finally revealed his secret to the house and to Australia.
Last night's male to female dating task may well have been the final straw for David, who had until now chosen to keep his sexuality under wraps. During his brief date with Camilla, David asked if she would hold a grudge against someone who had misled her. With the seed of suspicion planted in Camilla's mind, David had no choice but to follow through and explain his confusing line of questioning.

After dinner, David gathered the HMs together and told them he hadn't been completely honest with them since entering the House. "I've skipped questions and I've allowed you guys to assume things," admitted David.

"I wouldn't normally be speed dating where guys are on one side and girls are on the other," said David. "I'd be speed dating where guys are on one side and guys are on the other... I'm the token farmer and the token gay guy."

At this, the HMs all jumped to their feet to hug and reassure him - all of them, that is, except Camilla. She stayed seated on the couch, tears running down her face, claiming she felt deceived. Eventually David approached her to talk, explaining that he'd wanted to tell her all along but it had just been too hard for him. After a brief chat, Camilla gave David a big hug and assured him that all was forgiven.

After all the excitement and stress of the evening, David stepped outside to the garden to gather his thoughts. Feeling overwhelmed, he broke down crying and confided in Karen that he's concerned about the ramifications of baring his soul to the entire nation. She assured him that he did the right thing. "That's the strongest thing anyone's ever done."

"It's a total relief," agreed David.

Since revealing his big secret last night, David already seems to have had the weight of the world lifted from his shoulders. He's told his HMs he wants to serve as an inspiration to other rural people who might be struggling with their sexuality, and he's even divulged his secret crushes on the boys; Dino and Michael he finds attractive, but he's most smitten with Jamie!

So, were David's early fears about his HMs' reactions warranted? So far the response in the house has only been positive. Instead of driving a wedge between him and his HMs, it seems to have only brought them closer.

I'm guessing this was from before the above article but here we go anyway.

BIG BROTHER'S ***** COWBOY
by John Burfitt and Myles Wearring

A BIG BROTHER GAY HOUSEMATE REMAINS TIGHT-LIPPED ABOUT SEXUALITY FOR NOW.

At a time when gay cowboys are all the rage thanks to Brokeback Mountain, reality TV’s Big Brother has got in on the act with housemate David, a gay grazier from rural Queensland.

But upon going into the house the 26-year-old decided he would add his own twist by not revealing his sexuality to the other housemates.

According to Big Brother spokesperson David Brown, it was a decision the housemate made by himself, without any pressure from the producers or Network Ten.

“This is all his own doing, and he’s decided to have a bit of fun with it,” Brown told Sydney Star Observer.

“The fact that David is gay is not a secret to the world, but he decided he would keep it a secret from his housemates, none of whom he had ever met before. It could be a bit of a strategy.”

The farmer, who lives five hours west of Brisbane, reveals on his Big Brother profile he attended an all-male boarding school and is “fantastic at sex”.

Meanwhile there may be another quasi-queer housemate in the form of Elise, 21, from NSW. “I’ve only ever dated men but am considering women, although I’m a bit scared,” she is quoted as saying on the official Big Brother website.

Big Brother's David 'comes out' on national TV

After entering the Big Brother house 5 days ago, last night David finally broke the silence on his homosexuality to his fellow housemates. Big Brother’s Little Brother removes the coat hanger from the closet…

By Little Brother - Big Brother Correspondent
Posted Wednesday, April 26, 2006

While performing Big Brother’s speed dating task, David asks Camilla if she would hold a grudge to anyone that has misled her. Acting confused, she takes offence to the question and demands if he has misled her.

Even though David is trying to evaluate Camilla’s possible reaction to him ‘coming out’, he remains evasive about the subject. Camilla leaves the conversation upset and David then enters the Diary Room.

When he reemerges, David gathers the housemates to the lounge. As he begins to speak, the housemates sit in silence to learn about this mysterious grouping.

He explains that during the ‘getting to know you’ task, it has been very difficult for him as he hasn’t been able to reveal all of himself to everyone. David says, “I’ve skipped questions and I’ve allowed you guys to assume things”.

The housemates listen curiously, giving David their complete attention. He says, "I wouldn't normally be speed dating where guys are on one side and girls are on the other. I'd be speed dating where guys are on one side and guys are on the other."

David finally reveals: "I'm the token farmer and the token gay guy." Everyone starts clapping, getting up to congratulate him with handshakes and gugs. That is everyone, except buddy Camilla, who has seemed to take a liking to David over the last couple of days.

She begins to cry and David tries to comfort her. Camilla explains that she feels that she has been deceived, making her look like a fool in front of the other housemates.

David reassures her, before taking some time out by himself out side. Overwhelmed, he breaks down and starts to cry. The reality of ‘coming out’ to the housemates, also means he will now have to face everyone in his local town and wherever he goes.

He is later joined by Karen, who tries to reassure David. He explains to her that he hopes his parents is okay and worries that people from his local town will class him as a social outcast. Karen tells him, “That’s the strongest thing anyone’s ever done”. She says his family will love and accept him no matter what, “You’ve told Australia. You’re never going to be in that situation again”. David feels a sense of relief that finally his family knows.

Later David and Camilla are together alone in the bathroom. He hopes that he has set a good example for other gay farmers in rural Australia.

Before checking all the doors to ensure they are both alone, David then reveals he finds Dino and Michael attractive – but most of all Jamie.

Meanwhile John and Dino are discussing David’s announcement in the lounge area, saying that he did it well. John then reminds Dino that he is sleeping in David and Camilla’s bed tonight. Dino remarks, “Cool best of both worlds”.

Later sitting on his bed, David reveals his photos with some of the other housemates. One of the photos he proudly shows is of himself and a handsome Lebanese man on horseback. He also comments that he met someone 3 weeks before he entered the house. When asked earlier in the day if the person he was seeing before coming in will stop him from doing anything in the house, he replies, “I’ve never closed myself off to opportunity. If you see an opportunity, take it”.

David leaves the bedroom later and enters the Diary Room. He then breaks down to Big Brother.

He has certainly shared with us a very private and intimate element of his life. It was remarkable seeing this unfold, experiencing David’s true feelings and emotion every step of the way throughout the night. Not knowing whether to share his tears, or a sense of excitement for him, I can’t help but feel moved by this. David’s story is one that is a positive example for the Australian audience to experience.

Big Brother's Father & Son plot revealed?

Only days after the sixth series kicked off, Big Brother seems to be pulling off twists from all directions. Rumour has it, a father and son will also enter the house as ‘The Others’. Big Brother’s Little Brother investigates this new myriad of family members.

By Little Brother - Big Brother Correspondent
Posted Wednesday, April 26, 2006

As reported earlier by Big Brother’s Little Brother, one of the potential ‘world firsts’ was the unveiling of ‘The Others’. This was rumoured in the build-up to the series and even TV guides published a 60 minute special of the same name on Monday 24th April. Strangely it became ‘The Insider’, with Big Brother’s first internal trouble maker unleashed to uncover the secret mother & daughter relationship.

But what ever happened to ‘The Others’ and that published TV special? It is now speculated that the whole thing was held off at the last minute. Some TV guides in some states, had been changed to read ‘The Insider’, however due to timing constraints some had not yet been changed as they are compiled weeks in advance.

It is believed that an extra 2 housemates will enter the Big Brother house. They will be known as ‘The Others’ - a secret father and son relationship, whose entrance into the house has been postponed. They were meant to enter the Big Brother house on the first Monday night, but now it is unknown if or when they will enter.

In a twist that will shock fans, the father in this relationship will actually be Karen’s brother Paul and the son is her nephew Zac. The relation to Krystal is of coarse her uncle and cousin.

At the launch show, it was revealed that Karen and Krystal were hiding their mother and daughter relationship from fellow housemates. If they remain undetected for 1 week, they will be immune from nominations. However if they fail, the two of them will automatically face the public eviction vote.

Big Brother’s ‘Insider’ Michael, has been commissioned to find which housemates are hiding a ‘secret relationship’, if he fails he will also face the public eviction vote.

SMUT-SEEKING Big Brother bogans are blowing up about the lack of adults-only material on the show's premium website service – claiming they're not getting enough boob and bum for their buck.

Members of the service have paid $40 to view shower scenes, steamy make-out sessions and under-the-sheets footage not suitable for screening on TV.

But they say they're not getting what they paid for.

"It's clear that no nudity is going to be provided on the feeds because the (sic) fraudlent premium offer is a sham," one member said on the show's online forum.

"Big Brother filled the house with sexy good-looking housemates . . . why can't we see them get their gear off? Is this Big Brother or Big Prude?"

Another said:"It's a bit of a joke. It's like the scraps. What's worse is that they are ignoring the immense dissatisfaction from users here."

Members of the service got what they wanted last year when housemates got their gear off and started a pash fest within hours of entering the house.

But this year's crew has been less flesh-friendly so far – leaving the voyeur premium service lacking in action.

"We know premium users want adults-only content on the premium service but we can only deliver what comes out of the house," a spokesman for production company Southern Star said.

"This year the housemates aren't delivering that type of content as quickly as, say, last year, when we had spa action two hours after they entered the house on launch night."

Family secret evades Big Brother insider
Batemansbay
Friday, 28 April 2006

TODAY is Day Six in the Big Brother house and, as of yesterday, nobody knows Karen and Krystal's deep dark secret.

The whole nation knows they're mother and daughter, but so far none of the other housemates have twigged that the pair share more than just plastic surgeons.

Even Big Brother's personal saboteur, Michael, hasn't been able to unearth their secret.

If he doesn't suss the truth by the end of the week he could be evicted.

He has been quite close to the secret - at least physically - but so far, Krystal has been unshakeable.

If either Karen or Krystal let the secret slip, they'll face the same fate as Michael.

The pair have barely talked since their arrival, and save for one scare on the first night, haven't had to talk their way out of too much trouble.

Yesterday evening, Karen was the busiest of the Bay's ladies.

Despite the difference in age, Karen far from mothers her younger housemates - she's more like a wiser, older sister.

Late on Wednesday night, David announced that he was gay.

The housemates' reaction was, as expected, underwhelming.

They cheered, said thanks for being honest, and told him they weren't fussed which way he swung.

Only Camilla, who was sweet on David, was upset. The pair quickly resolved their spat.

David was very upset by the experience but Karen helped him through most of his emotions.

Karen and David talked for a lot of the night, and Karen revealed she knew from the first day.

David suspected Karen had seen through him so he'd spent most of his time inside trying to avoid her.

Later David went into the garden and broke down.

Karen was quickly there again to comfort him. Her words turned David's grief to relief.

But her compassion did little to warm Big Brother's heart. He made Michael steal all the photos Karen brought into the house.

Karen went to bed distressed that night, after several failed searches for the pictures.

After dominating the Big Brother web-diary for the first few days, Krystal has had but a few mentions.

We don't expect that to last, however.

THE Big Brother star who this week tearfully outed himself on TV was the victim of a violent gay bashing that left him bloodied and unconscious.

As this picture reveals, farmer David Graham, 26, who is the early favourite to win the show, paid an almost fatal price for his lifestyle.
The former Melburnian, who now lives in Queensland, was brutally beaten by five men and left for dead in a pool of blood after leaving a popular Brisbane gay nightspot in the early hours of January 22.

He was making his way to his ute parked in a side street when he was set upon by a gang of men throwing rocks and bottles.

The attack is believed to be part of a wave of anti-gay violence.

In an interview several weeks before he entered the Big Brother house, David said he tried unsuccessfully to placate his attackers.

"But before I knew it there were guys behind me and they were just beating the back of my head," he said.

"All I can remember after that is the pain. They absolutely beat the s--- out of me.

"My mate said they just kicked me while I was on the ground until they thought I'd had enough or they were scared they had killed me."

The assault left him with severe bruising across his face and body.

"My whole face was a mess of blood," he said.

"I was taken to the hospital and was in and out of unconscious for two hours.

"If you've been bashed by five guys you would expect there to be some type of internal injuries or brain damage after the kicks I took to the head -- thank God there wasn't."

His sister Linda Graham, 32, of Brisbane, yesterday said the early morning telephone call informing her David had been found bashed in a dark street was "one of the most horrific moments of my life".

"To be called at 4am and told by your friends they've found your little brother unconscious and covered in blood . . . it's horrifying," she said.

But rather than harbour anger or bitterness towards his attackers, she said David had moved forward in life.

"He is incredibly positive and such an intelligent person," she said.

"After the bashing he said 'Hey, things happen, but you could die tomorrow, so why look at the negatives when you can celebrate the positives'."

Linda said David's initial reluctance to reveal his sexual orientation to the nation was his way of breaking down gay stereotypes and putting a realistic face to homosexuality.

Big Brother's world-first mother and daughter duo have revealed their secret family ties to their fellow contestants on the reality television show.

Karen, 36, and her daughter Krystal, 19, have spent the first week in the house pretending to be perfect strangers.

But tonight they revealed their secret to the other 13 contestants vying to win the Ten Network program.

"I have been living an alias life," Krystal said.

She went on to say that her story of living in Cronulla and the identity of her parents had been a lie, before stating: "I have a young hippie mother who happens to be Karen."

After successfully deceiving the housemates, the duo are now immune from the first round of eviction nominations tomorrow night.

Big Brother insider Michael - who was tasked with working out which two housemates had a relationship, but failed - will now be up for eviction.

Meanwhile, Victorian duo Anna, 20, and Camila, 22, were voted most annoying by their fellow housemates and ordered to leave.

But the women were taken aside and told the identities of the housemates who voted for them and their reasons for doing so.

Big Brother then told the two that they had the chance to stay in the house if they caused as much chaos as possible by taking revenge on those who voted them out.

The women have been given two days to carry out the task and will return to the house if Big Brother deems they have done a satisfactory job.

That sounds a good way to stir things up!

A REVELATION by Big Brother favourite David Graham that he was the victim of a vicious gay bashing has further bolstered his popularity among viewers of the reality TV show.

The 26-year-old organic farmer came out as gay on national television this week and is the early favourite to win the show's $1 million prize money.
The Sunday Mail newspaper revealed yesterday he was violently set upon by a gang of men as he left popular Brisbane gay night spot The Wickham in the early hours of January 22.

The paper said David was beaten as well as struck with bottles and rocks in the attack.

The assault left him with serious bruising across his face and body and also drifting in and out of consciousness.

News of the bashing has further increased support for the former model among viewers who vote to select a winner.

David's odds are down from $3.50 to $3.25 as a result of the latest betting plunge, with Centrebet rating him twice as likely as second favourite Krystal ($6.50) to triumph.

"It's pretty good odds at this stage of the competition," said Centrebet's media spokesman.

David kept his sexuality private when he entered the house but came clean on the show on Wednesday after Victorian nightclub worker Camilla began to show an interest in him.

FIVE housemates are up for eviction this week in the Big Brother digs, following an elaborate nomination process last night.

Even host Gretel Killeen appeared to be making it up as she went along as Big Brother gave each contestant two minutes to say who they wanted out of the house and why.

The five housemates officially nominated for the first public eviction are Elise, Tilli, Claire, Dino and Michael.

Ashley escaped nomination after Friday Night Games victor Gaelan exercised his nomination power to remove three points from Ashley's total.

The housemates tussled with Big Brother during the nominations, hiding behind such hackneyed phrases as "below the radar" with a couple almost awarded a penalty for not being prepared.

Claire at one point forgot Ashley's name, but so too did Big Brother, referring to him as David.

Michael, Big Brother's insider, was up for automatic nomination, but this was cleverly disguised by announcing his name after Gaelan cast his vote.

Gretel struggled to come to grips with the technology as the autocues faded, the earpiece bombarded her with new information and she struggled to explain how the audience now has the chance to not only evict housemates, but keep them in the house as well.

The only housemates who did not attract any points from the rest were Jamie and David.

Krystal and Karen were immune from eviction this week as they successfully kept their mother-daughter relationship a secret.

Anna and Camilla remain in lockdown in the revenge room.

The housemates were shocked on Sunday night when they were asked by Big Brother to pack their bags and nominate 2 people for eviction. Then later, Karen and Krystal’s secret mother and daughter relationship was exposed, receiving mixed reactions from their fellow housemates.

But the twists didn’t end there, as Gretel announced that it was “time to go” for Anna. She bursts into tears, comforted by her fellow housemates. Ironically, Camilla offers her support by saying she is jealous that Anna will be able to party tonight outside the Big Brother house. But before Anna had time to comprehend she was the first evictee, Gretel spoke for a second time revealing that a second housemate will also be leaving tonight – Camilla.

The housemates were stunned that there was a double eviction so soon, as they had expected the same time line as previous years. This is the first year that an eviction has occurred earlier than week two. They also didn’t plan that Big Brother would ‘create’ the real feeling of a live eviction show – complete with pre-recorded audience sounds.

Big Brother gave the two girls 10 seconds to farewell their fellow housemates, before they entered the Diary Room airlock. With the door to the house closing behind them, the girls then walked into a long narrow hallway. The walls of the hallway had sharp angles and shapes protruding out of them, almost symbolic of actually stepping inside of Big Brother’s mind itself.

They were then guided into a secret room with a double bed, bathroom, kitchen and plasma. It also has no windows, so its occupants have no idea if it is day or night in the outside world.

Before the girls could work out where they were, Big Brother reveals, “Welcome to the Revenge Room”. With that, Anna and Camilla both squeal and give a hi-five in excitement. They are told to keep their voices down and to put on the headphones.

It was then explained to the girls that their eviction was ‘staged’ and they will re-enter the house upon successful completion of a yet-to-be-determined task. Big Brother then played vision on the plasma of the housemates responsible for voting them out. They became glued to the screen, of what seemed like an endless session of nominations and negative comments. Holding hands, the girls are shocked by what they see. This includes Camilla’s vote of 2 points to Anna, to which she immediately apologizes. Then Tilli reveals that she nominated Camilla because, “Everything about her is fake and forced”. Out of the two girls, Camilla is the most outraged of the comments made from Tilli, scowling “Tilli is a snake!”

Big Brother then boomed, “You must decide who to exact revenge on and why”. The two of them then fantasize about stealing Tilli’s glasses, Krystal’s make-up and Karen’s bras.

The girls are only exposed to live feeds from the house when Big Brother wants them to. They are also instructed to keep quiet in the secret room, if noise carries through into the house their task will deemed a failure and they will be evicted from the house once and for all. To assist this, Big Brother communicates to the two girls via a special phone.

Anna and Camilla then spoil themselves discussing various revenge tactics on their fellow housemates whilst drinking tea and eating toast. Meanwhile, David asks Michael if he thinks the two girls will return – to which the ‘Insider’ rules out because there are 13 housemates and only 12 weeks.

Big Brother then summons the housemates into the Diary Room. He then grants the two girls access back into the house to reek havoc. Sneaking past the Diary Room door, the girls head straight for the bedroom and shake itching powder into Krystal’s bed. The girls then steal most of the toilet paper, before tip-toeing back to their secret Revenge Room. In victory, the two girls proudly walk around their secret room holding the wasted toilet paper up in the air.

Yesterday, the two girls woke up with Big Brother telling them to prepare for their next plot for revenge. Robbing Krystal of her hot water in the shower, the girls laugh and giggle as Krystal leaves the bathroom confused and shivering. Later in the afternoon, the girls sneak back into the house and steal clothes from Tilli, Krystal and Claire. Camilla predicts that Big Brother will make them re-enter the house wearing these clothes.

With nothing else to do except analyze their fellow housemates behavior and administer appropriate schemes, one must ask – what state of minds will these two girls be in when they return to the house tonight?

Camilla has already promised she will walk straight up to Tilli and call her a “lying bitch”. Both girls have agreed that they will act differently in the house when they re-enter. Camilla announces to her revenge sister, "I've decided that if we go back into the house I'm going to play just as sweet and charming as them." She then says if she were to treat the housemates the way she really wanted to, none of them would like her. "Not that I care really," she adds.

By the second night, the girls look tired and anxious. Big Brother has provided endless fatty microwave pasta snacks for them to eat – food which will be contributing to their overall anxiousness! As time ticks by, the girls excite themselves with plots, desperate for Big Brother’s next phone call. Camilla has become completely obsessed with claiming revenge on her fellow housemates, “They're going to learn to never ever double cross us again," says Camilla. "Ha ha, suckers!"

Should their task be deemed as successful by Big Brother, the girls’ return to the house will involve a special party for John’s 21st birthday tonight.

LAST week the much anticipated new series of Big Brother began. During the past month we have been bombarded with ads telling us that there would be a "world first". This ensured that BB fanatics and gossip columns spread as many rumours as possible about what could be awaiting the new contestants.

Some predicted that this year's BB would be totally gay, others predicted someone would give birth on the show.
No such luck. Instead the new contestants consisted of eight young, thin, attractive women and seven hunky guys. The big secret was also revealed that there is a "relationship" in the house, a mother and daughter. All very exciting stuff, if we hadn't seen exactly the same unrepresentative trite for the previous three years or so.

Importantly, it has become more and more apparent that the phenomenon of BB has a large impact on young Australians. Kids want to be on the show, they want to know the contestants, they discuss what happened the night before at school, and many scramble for tickets to eviction shows so they can hold up banners or dress up as contestants.

Around two million viewers will tune in each week to watch the arguments, tantrums and saucy "tit bits" that happen in the house each week. Out of that two million a large proportion of viewers will be between 10-16 years of age.

What they see will have an impact on their impressions of young adulthood and how young Australians should act in social situations. This means that for three months every year, BB is very influential in terms of the social development of a large proportion of young Australians.

With such power comes social responsibility. It doesn't take a genius to work out that putting 15 pretty people from similar cultural backgrounds together in a house for three months will produce sexual tensions. And this is exactly what BB producers want.

However, BB has missed the chance to positively influence young Australians.

What is mainly missing from the house is cultural diversity. Introducing contestants that represent a cross section of Australian society will provide young viewers with an understanding of the cultural differences that exist in Australia.

Obviously BB cannot become a show about how young Australians should be responsible and live happily together. Sponsors would run a mile and so would the viewers. But that doesn't mean they can't mix the show up a little by bringing in contestants from different backgrounds. Where is the indigenous Australian? The Muslim woman? The 35-year-old professional? The average person who happens to be interesting and funny without looking like they've just come off the cover of Vogue?

That would still leave room for the model, the exotic dancer and the surfer dude.

There is so much prejudice held towards Muslims, Asians and indigenous Australians today. Teenagers also face the often unrealistic pressure to look thin and gorgeous. A diversified house would have the impact of breaking down barriers and positively affecting young Australians' acceptance of all people.

I hear some of you saying but there is one gay guy this year. However, to me, as a good looking ex-model he is a clone of the other guys and although gay, he will not threaten their masculinity. It is the "camp" gay that often threatens the straight man. It is also the camp gay who suffers from the most homophobia from young Australians.

In Britain, a camp gay guy and a transsexual woman have already won Big Brother. BB UK has had the effect of not just humanising certain marginalised people but generating admiration for them. So come on BB next year mix things up a bit and make a social difference at the same time.
