Hi everyone.

I thought I'd let you all know, as Joanna ("Leftschool")'s mother, that there won't be any more postings from my daughter as she sadly passed away yesterday.

She was queuing outside the Liquid Rooms in Edinburgh for a Delays concert, and she collapsed. Her friend Julie was with her at the time and managed to get an ambulance. She suffered a cardiac arrest and her heart stopped for 50 minutes. They managed to stabilise her for a few hours but sadly, at 19:10 last night, she died.

We're taking comfort in the fact that she didn't know what was happening, didn't suffer, and seemed to be in high spirits beforehand (5 minutes before we got the phone call telling us she collapsed, she was on the phone to her dad happily chatting away.)

She would be mortified if anyone thought that this was due to substance abuse of any kind. She detested drink, drugs, and often chastised her sister for dabbling. She suffered a heart problem since birth (went through open heart surgery twice!) and although these kinds of cardiac arrests can happen to anyone at any time, she was more susceptible.

She was 17.

We took the effort to post this because we know that she made many friends on this forum, and just wanted to let you know what happened and why you're not going to be hearing from her any more.

There are no words in this world that wouldn't echo emptyness in a situation like this, but for what it's worth, I am so sorry for your loss.

Can't find words at the moment....one of our little family here has gone from this world.

Yes, Caramac (sorry, I'm guessing you are Carol, but know you as Caramac), hopefully you can take some comfort in knowing that your beautiful daughter didn't suffer long before she died.

The loss of a child has to be the hardest thing - you and your family are in our thoughts here.

And thank you for letting us know about Joanna - she was important here, and we will miss her.

Edit: Because of Rincewind's post on this thread, I now realise that Jemma is Jemzie on here. Your heart must be broken, Jemma....I am so sorry.

This is the most awful news that any parent could ever hear and I am truly sorry for your loss. As Liisi and GG have said, there are no words that can help. You are in my thoughts.

Humorous, energetic. Quirky and entertaining where my memories of Joanna`s posts as Left school.

All my attempts to write something here have sounded inadequate.

I’m sure others of this friendly forum to which she was an active part , a family of Big Brother fans can find the proper words to convey the feelings of loss we all have today.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss Carol, I can't begin to imagine what your going through at this time, it must be a great shock for this to happen so suddenly without much warning.

I enjoyed reading Joanna's posts and just to repeat what other people have said, she will be missed. I hope you don't mind but I would like to pray for you and your family at this very difficult time.

I really don't know what to say, its impossible for me to know how you and Jemz feel, so I won't pretend too. Its at times like this I wish I was more eloquent.

I didn't know Joanna that well, but she was enthusiastic, intelligent, funny, and will be missed in every way.

Will echo what most people have said thus far in that I really don't know what to say. It's times like this when you can be made to feel helpless unless you've gone through it before and I'm lucky in the fact I haven't.

I can't even begin to imagine what you're going through and how hard it must have been to write the post on here. I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say our thoughts go out to you and all of her family.

It must be absolutley devestating for you and I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you and your family at this very sad time and thank you for letting us know. So a short life, I hope you have many happy memories of her that will stay with you.

Am stunned.What a terrible tragedy.There are no words adequate to express how sorry I feel for your loss.Losing a child is the most painful loss of all.She will be missed.

It is very hard to know what to say at a time like this. Thank you Carol and Jemma for posting the news as I'm sure you have more than enough to deal with at the moment.
