FIREMEN have been banned from flying England’s flag at their station during the World Cup.

Stunned crews were told the Cross of St George could offend ethnic minorities.

One fireman at the station in Barking, East London, said: “It’s insane.”

Ashfaq Siddique, secretary of Barking Mosque, said: “We’re not offended — it’s a national flag.”

London Fire Brigade confirmed staff needed permission from the commissioner to hoist flags.

A spokesman said: “We are addressing this issue locally with the station.”

thats the key bit. Therefore in a racially troubled town, people with their own set of motives are using this rule to turn it round into "we can't fly our flag during the world cup in case we offend ethnic minorities". Huge difference but never let that get in the way of a politically motivated story.

Like with all the other 'offensive' bans (Christmas lights, nursery school rhymes, etc) has anyone ever asked the minority groups? I've never been asked. I bet if they did the majority of us would find it just as ridiculous. I blame the minorities within minority groups.

I'll def be flying my huge flag of St George whether I offend anyone or not - it's the flag of England for Christ's (and Allah's, Krishna's, etc) sakes and I was born and live in England.
