Just sold my car.

:-(

He was my best friend. He never let me down ever. He was cheap to run. He was nippy and beat everyone else at the lights.
I've got a new car and it's lovely but I didn't really want one, I wanted to keep my old car until it died. We were a team :-(

My other half said we needed a bigger one as the kids are getting bigger but I didn't care because I had plenty of legroom.

Also the heater only worked on full blast but that didn't bother me, and my headlight kept blowing so he said he's not going to keep chucking money at it when it's 10 years old.

But you can't put a price on reliability I say.

I sound like Nikki I know! I just feel sad now I've actually watched someone else drive it away.
They don't know how lucky they are and what a good deal they got.

Yeah I got rid of my last car because I thought it was going to start costing me money cos it was up to 130k miles and at that time I was still commuting every day. Irony is that the newer car I bought has probably cost me more than the old one ever would have! What's the new car? I want a new car... not need, just want ;)

I remember when someone came to pick up my old car for the scrap yard HD. It was this gurt big bloke that looked like he would glass you if you upset him. I said ''ooh I feel quite emotional saying goodbye to this car'' and he gave me a look like I needed commiting ::lol:: but I do understand how you feel. You can get attached to your cars but enjoy the new one!

It's a peugeot 307. And it is lovely. Only 3 years old which is the newest car I've ever had. But my Micra....... It was only a 1.0 engine with no fancy electrics or anything but was so nippy and fast and cheap to run. I'm noticing that this one is costing way more in petrol.
Before I had my Micra, all my cars used to give me problems. Not starting at the most inconvenient times or stalling in traffic and not being able to start again. I never ever had anything like that with my Micra.
I'm just worried that this new one might start being a git and I'll cry!

I know BB, I feel really stupid but it was like part of my family.
I never cared that it wasn't a good looking car. I've never worried about looks when it comes to cars, just reliability.
I hope they look after it.

Yep my last car was a Micra and I assumed it would start costing money and I saw my new car in a garage and thought it was a good deal... and I still miss my Micra.

Awww HD hope you feel ok soon. I loved my first car so much that I was upset when we gave it away. (it was too crap to sell). It was an old Austin and we used to joke that it didn't have an emergency stop, just an emergency slow-down. You couldn't wind down any of the windows, as they wouldn't go back up again and it didn't even have a radio, so I used to keep a little cassette player on the floor. It was pretty crappy, but I paid for it by myself and absolutely loved it. :D

My first road car after passing my test (a Mini ,and one of many) was a dream. 998cc engine ,wide wheels ,massive brakes ,bucket seats ,sports exhaust. Didn't look anything special but the engine was very free revving taking the speedo well off the end ! Serviced every 2000 miles to go with the hard life the engine was having.
Unfortunately the engine died though I could have fixed it with a re-bore.
The replacement engine was tight and sluggish and horrible.
Car had to be scraped after I rolled it and it was well beyond repair. But as it was the first car I drove on the road it was well looked after and if it could have been salvaged I would have done it.

The only other one that I really enjoyed and didn't want to part with was another Mini. I bought the rolling shell for £130 and transplanted a very low mileage MG Metro 1275cc Engine with all the other bit that have to go to make to stop and go.
The fun factor was great. I rusty looking silver Mini that really could leave the boys in their toys in the dust and a few older bigger toys but there was a period when one of the firms I was working for was going under and I wasn't earning much money so I needed another 998cc Mini to save on the running costs and I really wished I've never sold it along with my spares collection and my 3/4 build race Mini for what I ended up with which really was a heap of rust that had some how passed an MOT.

But we do get attached to our vehicles from time to time.

Sorry you are feeling sad HD

I get my new car on Saturday and I am really excited about it - I can't wait to get rid of my old one, it has been a total nightmare since I bought it - things going wrong all the time :-?

Ridiculously it was the first newish car I had ever had, having always had bangers while I was a student etc.. they were more reliable! Which is pretty bizarre I suppose ${ :D

I completely understand how you feel HD.

I always feel cars have their own personalities and they are like one of the family. But be assured in a little while you will look back and smile!

My best car ever was the one we had when I passed my test - a Morris 1000 - lovingly known as The Blob! In the end it was in such a state it only had 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears - I had completely lost 1st and reverse! I had to drive to work and park very carefully so that I could leave the car park by only going forward  One day I came home from work on the bus to find it had gone to the great Morris 1000 graveyard in the sky. I never even had a chance to say goodbye :-( I have to say I look back at that car with great affection.

I've got a funny feeling I have posted this before on another thread - sorry if I'm repeating myself - its the age thing you see - anyone who had a Morris 1000 must be getting on a bit :D

Well thank you everyone for your thoughts and stories. I don't feel half as silly now I know other people have felt the same as me. I've just come back from the shop in my new car and have loads of room in the driveway now my other car has gone so it's so much easier to reverse in.
See I'm trying to be postive!!!!
