Spent all last night looking for flights. Quite relieved I didn't now.

Sounds like our security forces have done themselves proud.

Absolutely.

Last report I heard that up to 10 planes could have been involved in a possible terrorist attack, all of which could have been set to blow up mid-flight.

Luckily it's my son's birthday so my other half took today off work. All the taxis ranked up there are stuck in the feeder park with no fares!

I wonder whats gonna be happening tomorrow...my brother is in Ukraine at the moment but is flying back to Heathrow tomorrow, but because he's stopping in Vienna if they do the 'cancel all three hour or less flights' again then he's screwed! Ahh

Well my other half has gone to rank up as apprently they are crying out for taxis to take people to hotels in Surrey and further as all the local ones are full. I feel really sorry for the people who have travelled a long way to get to the airport.
And for the poor sods who just want to come home.

Okay, I know terrorism is bad and '9/11' was a terrible event, and anyone with darkish skin and a dodgy beard with a penchant for J Arthur Bower's finest (it used to be anyone with ' O' ' in their surname) should be arrested and/or accidently shot, but I wish the fear and risk of terrorism was put into context. Every 12 days more people die on Britain's roads than died in the London bombings last year. Okay, so terrorism is technically an act of murder - but so should causing death due to drink-driving, or dealing drugs, etc, etc.

If you were a terrorist what would be your options if you couldn't get on a plane? How about a crowded peak-time commuter train? Cross-channel ferry perhaps? Or the Channel Tunnel? Or the Golden Gate bridge in rush-hour? A crowded sports stadium. The list of possibilities seems endless. Soon we'll all end up having to walk around naked. Maybe not such a bad idea... ;).

It's great that the security forces are out there protecting us, but surely changes in government policy are going to have more of an effect on reducing global terrorism than making an 80-year old granny stick her knitting needles in the hold luggage. They could start by removing our troops from Iraq, and put pressure on Israel to be a bit more diplomatic when it comes to negotiating peace.

I'm sorry, but you're simply too far advanced for most people who are idiots when it comes to such logical thinking.

Think of all those lardy lazy lumps who are smoking/drinking themselves stupid this evening, and note that many are actually worried about being blown to bits by some 'islamofacist' (Hey, I love Georgies new term). Its totally laughable, and indicative that not only is the media hysterical, but that once again a reminder to us that the masses are asses.

As for today....
Who knows what the hell has really happened. The plan to take down a fleet of planes arriving in the USA is an old one, and some are already arguing that those in power are merely using it as an excuse to divert attention from other matters (ohh yeah, that 'little war in the middle east right now, remember that?).

Government is usually contemptable on the best of days, often full of lies and deceit, and the truth is rarely fully revealed, so its best to just enjoy some more of Nicki and Grace :)

Too be honest I'd rather have the freedom to drink or smoke myself too death, than to have some creep with a dodgy beard and and a funny hat tell me what to do. What the hells terrorism got to do with road deaths, if you'd let people like that lot take control than maybe they'd ban cars, and drink and fags, and save a few lives, so people could to be beheaded for playing rock music or looking at a womans ankles, or a wisp of hair protruding through some sort of letter box or scarf. ${

On Tues I came back from from France on a very crowded ferry and there were 3 young men stomping around, full robes, beards and Korans
They attracted quite a lot of attention and were being followed by a stern looking lady with an earpiece. Wonder how long it took them to get through Dover.
:-?

I'm not really sure of what point you're actually making, to be honest. But I just wonder if you always believe everything OUR beloved, honest, decent, law-abiding, honourable government tells you?

And for the record, I am no fan of extreme religious doctrines of ANY kind that take away civil liberties. But I think there would be a lot of decent, hard-working and peaceful moslems in Britain who might quite understandably take some issue with the way you have phrased part of your argument.

I agree with steve. He's not talking about decent law abiding citizens, he's talking about terrorists.
They are evil IMO and won't be happy until basically everyone's a muslim, but they are killing muslims in these attacks too. In their twisted logic they find this acceptable. If the whole world gave in to their demands they would find more reasons to terrorise everyone with.

I hear what you're saying, HappyDaiz. But why pick on their mode of dress for the criticism? In such a disrespectful way?

My problem with the whole terrorist debate is that I'm not always sure that the threat is real. I think governments WANT us to be afraid, so that they can make us have identity cards, and keep us under control. I don't trust our government, or that of the US. They told us we were in imminent danger from weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Which turned out to be a BIG lie - but our troops are now in danger out in that country - in a war that is illegal and unjust. I'm sorry - but I don't take anything that is fed to me in the media at face value any more.

As someone who grew up with the threat of terrorism hanging over me on a daily basis, I would never EVER condone it. I just wanted to clarify that.
