After a bit of advice really.

My faithful personal CD player has died (it was brilliant for years!) and because when I start uni it's going to involve lots of bus travel and the like ( :puke: ) I was thinking it would probably be a good idea to buy an MP3 player. Don't have a clue about them though!

So basically was wondering if anyone could tell me which ones are supposed to be good as if it's anything like the CD player it will be used a lot. Not sure exactly how much I an spend on it (have a heap of stuff to save for at the minute) and *preferably* I would like one that is pink in colour.

Thanks {@}

My MP3 player has served me well. Had it about 8 months I think and love it to bits.

It's only got a 1gig memory but the battery life on it is good which for someone who uses it every single day without fail, thats important.

I got mine from EBAY, it's a Samsung and it cost me about £65 or something similar like that.

It's silver and white though Jez, not Pink! :D

Can't recommend one really but the things to consider when looking for one are:

Memory space - mine is 1 gig and can fit plenty on for my needs.

Battery life (playback) - anything below double figures (hours)is pointless because you'll spend a fortune on batteries. Mines about 40 or 50 I think.

Playable formats - It's no good getting an MP3 player that can't play WMA's as well, not for me anyway because I've got a lot of them as well. If it can play WMA's and MP3's then you don't need to worry about that.

Hope that helps.

Windows Media Audio files. They're like MP3's, just a different file extension but some MP3 players will only play MP3's and not WMA's.

Shame Argos used to have a 40GB Player for £89 but having just looked they seem to have stopped selling them.

Do you use Ebay ? If so I'll send you the works IDs ,they are normally cheaper than Argos but only Philips models.
I don't want to advertise but I'll PM them if your interested.

Well, so far only boys have replied, Jezi, and so no one's talked about the most important thing, it being pink. Hold onto your hat...

They're no longer available from Apple, but you can find them on ebay. Search for pink ipod mini mp3 player. They come in two sizes, 4gb and 6gb. There're some bargain ones on there at the moment. 6gb means I have about 4 days continuous music on there. I have a green 6gb and I bought it a year ago last May and it cost £169. There are ones on there now that are ex display for £10!

Get bidding!

I was thinking along the lines of the Nike PSA610.
3GB stylish and robust.

See Here

Available both via Ebay and the works website for £59.99 plus postage. Less on Ebay if you are a lucky bidder. I'm not on the sales team so I don't gain from them selling one.

Just a thought.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, will have to have a proper search on ebay and on various websites. At the minute I'm just looking at various ones because I honestly know nothing.

All very much appreciated :D

Things to consider is the number of albums you want to carry with you.
For instance ,I converted my Jarre collection (18 CDs) to MP3 with 192K sampling and they totalled 1.1GB.

So if you don't intend to have many albums with you and keep your collection on a PC then you can save money and get something with less storage.

Also the storage method comes in two forms ,Hard drive ,and Flash. Flash won't jump if your say on a tredmill or on a mountain-bike on rough torrain but the hard-drive models depending on the anti-skip method they employ can skip (see the comments in the review in my previous post).
The 3rd option if the PC / Laptop your going to use has a CD writer is an MP3 CD walkman and just burn the albums to want. 700K will hold a lot of songs. You still have the bit about anti-skip technology. Some cd players ,even with cd ,with load up to a minute ahead into memory so what you hear isn't what's currently being read. With MP3 / WMA the time stored in memory can be a lot longer.

I bought a Philips MP3 Personal CD player off Amazon about 3 years ago which is still going strong. It's a model that we never saw at work but at £70 it was cheap at the time. I used to use it in the car with a cassette adapter into the car radio and the batteries last a long time.

So there are 3 options

MP3 player with Flash Memory
MP3 player with Hard-Drive
MP3 CD Player.

Hard-drive players tend to cost more and can have much greater storage but again if you not going to use the storage save you money.

Your PC / Laptop will need ,in most cases ,USB2 to tranfer your files to your player. But if it's a new machine then that should be standard. You'll get software with what ever player you buy to allow you to create your MP3 and transfer them to the player.

Does anybody happen to know anything about Zen Creative mp3 players?!!

I got one for my birthday (a Zen Vision : M) and it didn't appear to be working at all, the relacement arrived this morning and there seems to be the exact same problem. I followed the instructions about putting in onto charge but it doesn't seem to be charging. It says not to switch it on but it comes on automatically when you plug it in and there was the wee icon saying it's fully charged literally the second after plugging it in but it can't be fully charged as it takes at least two hours.

Am now attempting to charge it via the USB cable and it appears to be doing nothing at all.

I'm at a loss because I've followed the instructions very carefully both times yet both times the issues have been the exact same which suggests to me it is quite likely something I'm doing wrong!

And any suggestions saying it's just rubbish because it's pink are not appreciated :eviltongue: ::lol::
