Zonealarm dropped support for Win98 with the release of v 6.5.
I have an old laptop that I've just removed all the BT stuff and I want to install a firewall. Laptop is too old to really run XP and it's not mine anyway. I normally install Zonealarm on everything but can't find an old version.

Is there another good free firewall I can download or can someone send me the version prior to 6.5. PM me if you can supply the old Free version.

Just installed Firefox (IE doesn't work !! C++ Runtime error) and a Free Dial-up account.

Working on it here I can just plug it into the network for instant access or unplug the network and it uses the modem. Much easier than IE.

Can anybody help please ?

Sorry Larry, I had lots of Win 98 versions on Zipp discs but wiped all of them a few weeks ago. If I do find one I'll give you a shout ()^

I found an Index of a site that had V6.1.744 along with the latest v6.5.xxx so a guess they jumped from 6.1 to 6.5.
I have this version installed and working.
I normally keep them as well but must of had a clear out.

I've had to disable the autoupdate option to stop it prompting to download the latest version. The same happens with SpySweeper who have also dropped Win98 but the program prompts to update everytime the PC boots up.

I know my 1GHz Athlon PC could run XP but as it runs fine with 98SE I can't see the point of upgrading plus there is no guarantee that it'll like XP SP2.

The Laptop I was working on I think is only 400MHz without a lot of RAM and a small Hard drive but it does everything the girl wants and she might not have the cash to buy a new one. Looks like the CMOS battery is flat as I got a checksum error when I first plugged it in and the default settings were loaded.
I'll text her in the morning to tell her she can collect it.

Here you go: http://www.oldapps.com/old_version_down ... eAlarm.php

Hopefully that will help.

Cheers for that site. Another one I've used in the past is Oldversion.com. Funnily enough the last time I used it was for ZoneAlarm - as the latest at the time didn't like my VPN client.
