I have experience of the compo culture, yes, and in the cases I am thinking of, the adults were giving the kids MUCH more care and attention than their parents ever do. I am sure you are right about the statistics, but many parents who adore their kids have no idea what they are up to half the time. Teachers HAVE to keep an eye on them.

In any case - I have always thought that you and I were cyber friends, but in a couple of threads tonight I get the impression that you find it impossible to have respect for those whose opinion differs from your own. I am sad about that.

I don't find it impossible at all!! I'm just having a discussion (I thought that was what a discussion forum was about) it has nothing to do with not having respect for someone who's opinions differ from mine. I don't understand why it was just made personal :-?

Sorry if I *misread* your tone. I was getting disapproval. Which is one of the hazards of the printed word, I suppose. I apologise sincerely.

I honestly NEVER meant to hurt you Boopy.

I guess I just get passionate about my views sometimes and I tend to feel differently about a lot of things than some other people do.

And after 20 years of doing my absolute BEST for other people's children, despite the fact that they often don't seem to try as hard as I do, I get a bit sensitive about the *you know nothing cos you are not a parent* line of thinking!!

The written word is a tricky wee minx on forum pages and on MSN and the like. It causes all manner of hot and botheredness at times that should never arise at all - but seems to out of misinterpretations etc.

I see that with lots of teachers in the school that aren't parents. I also know from experience that many parents don't know their kids when they are away from them. However having raised two on my own and done a marvelous job :D *brags* I also know the flip side of how difficult it can be when people maybe don't know the whole picture.

Like I say none of us can walk in another persons shoes.

There are some REALLY good parents out there, Boopy, and those of you who are doing a good job have a perfect right to brag.

I reckon you are. And I am well aware that it is NOT an easy job. I often think my parents must wonder why on earth they had me!!!!

Why, thank you both very much. In addition to what I said up there, the written word can also bestow a warm feeling of chuffedness when people think the same as you do!
