Coming soon from the makers of Big Brother: Live childbirth on TV. Is nothing private any more?

Channel Five is to show a woman giving birth live on air for the first time.

Birth Night Live, from the company behind Big Brother, will follow up to 18 expectant mothers in labour.

It is hoped that at least one will manage to produce a baby within the two-hour TV special next Sunday evening to "celebrate the miracle of childbirth", the producers said.

If not, the show, which starts at 8pm, could be extended for up to another two hours.

Midwives and parents' charities criticised TV company Endemol for turning the intimacy of childbirth into a spectacle for ratings.

we have ditched it in favour of some more up-to-date programmes ::lol::

But yes - I remember it as a child :-( (showing my age - Sarah Kennedy in her jumpsuit)

was that the one with the naked tennis? We have ditched that now but used to have a video with naked people playing tennis to show development. Hope they never hit the wrong balls :D

My maiden name was Sarah Kennedy and I never wore a jumpsuit ;)

BIRTH DAZED

LET'S face it, Channel 5's plans for a live showing of a birth were inevitable.

With Channel 4 spending seven years trying to film live conception (Big Brother) only to fail dismally, its minority rival was always going to cut straight to the end of the process.

But how long before ITV gets in on the act by filming queues of mums-to-be bearing womb-scan Polaroids, waiting to show Simon Cowell foetuses with their arms crossed, claiming their unborn mite has the X Factor?

And what will the ratings-chasing BBC do? Give us on-air abortions? Oh no, they already did that with the Davina McCall chat show. So we're safe there.
