1. Its just another excuse for increased tax revenue.

2. There is NO data to prove anything about the climate. Everything remains 'links', rather than causal.

3. It is probably already to late to even remotely stop the main ice sheets from melting - goodbye 90% of the worlds capitals which lie by the sea.

4. I suggest you all enjoy as many holidays are you can before things get really nasty.

finally...
The irony is that the most amazing thing happened recently - and hardly reported. The Gulf Stream failed for more than a week. If that had last a few extra months or did fail permanently, the UK would take on a Siberian climate.

Thats right, as the world heats up..the UK climate will collapse into very bitter/cold winters.

Calrissian: needs snow gear.

woo-hoo, finally the politicians seem to have woken up after decades of warnings and token Kyoto-style summits. Too little too late?

hmmm. Even if the West reduces emissions the growth of economies like China's and India's will just counter it. Unfortunately Asian countries don't seem to understand the concept of preserving the environment - everything is centred around making money.

Also, the more energy efficient we become, the more appliances we buy because we can afford to. Think of all the extra things you've bought that you don't really need that consume even more power.

And who's going to pay for combating climate change? We, the taxpayers, or industry? I'm all in favour of higher taxes on products that are wasteful (those Easter Egg companies should be publicly shamed for a start) or contribute to increased carbon emissions (that includes food that has been transported a long distance).

Calrissian - that's quite a significant and slightly worrying situation with the Gulf Stream. It means the melting ice is flowing further south. And if the North Atlantic Drift* is affected... things will get COOLER round these parts!

* Contrary to popular opinion the UK is NOT in the path of the Gulf Stream. Parts of the UK (mainly Scotland) are in the path of the North Atlantic Drift. The Gulf Stream turns back towards west Africa from the mid-North Atlantic.

C4 News this evening was fascinating. I rarely watch, but today I had to...

The seeming 'real expect' there noted that even with a 60% reduction in global greenhouse gases, that gives humanity only a 20% hope of avoiding catastrophic climate collapse.

Frankly, we're screwed.

Calrissian: Game over man....Game over !
