Pop group Wet Wet Wet are to headline Aberdeen's Hogmanay celebrations this year, it has been revealed.

The big name attractions are expected to draw thousands to the Castlegate for the 31 December event.

Wet Wet Wet front man Marti Pellow said: "We're delighted to be spending Hogmanay in Scotland and performing in Aberdeen will be very special for us."

The free Hogmanay celebrations are planned and funded by Aberdeen City Council.

Pellow - who has enjoyed hits including Wishing I Was Lucky with Wet Wet Wet - added: "It'll be the perfect start to the New Year for us, as 2007 sees us celebrate twenty years since our first hit record."

Tsk. Flaming typical. Still, there's bound to be something going on in Glasgow, isn't there?

Glasgow's Hogmanay Street Party,
George Square, 8.30pm-1.30am.

The famous rivalry between Scotland's two biggest cities continues where Hogmanay is concerned too. Scotland's largest city has the second biggest Hogmanay celebration in Scotland (after Edinburgh) with tens of thousands of revellers taking to the streets and Glasgow's jumping club scene.

The main venue in Glasgow on Hogmanay night is George Square with some classic local acts taking to the stage in the run up to the New Year.

Topping the bill are Athlete, Deacon Blue, Hue & Cry, Finlay Macdonald Band. ${

They are joined by MC Radio Clyde 1's George Bowie, Tam Coyle (DJ), and special guests Mischief la Bas, Dhol Infusion, the Scottish Rockettes, the Divine Company and lots more. :zzz:

Hogmanay a hot ticket

TICKETS for this year's Hogmanay Concert in the Gardens are selling fast.

Passes for the enclosure have already sold out and tickets for the 8000-capacity show are reported to be selling well.

The tickets for the concert, which features the Pet Shop Boys and Paolo Nutini, went on sale at 10am on Wednesday.

This year's headliners follow on from classic acts of previous years, including Culture Club, Blondie and The Pretenders.

I think the line up for Aberdeen is great this year, couldn't believe it when I read it and we will definitely be going because WWW are always fantastic live, seen them on their reunion tour in 2004. I've seen the Cosmic Rough Riders live before and thought they were good live too.

Roll on Hogmanay!

It does, but on the otherhand Aberdeens Hogmanay celebrations are free, Edinburgh and (I think) Glasgow you have to pay for (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

Glasgow is a far bigger city than Aberdeen and attract big name acts all year round. Cosmic Rough Riders and Wet Wet Wet is a very good line up for a city like Aberdeen and with us being so far North it's even better! {@}

ohhh....thanks for the explanation.

Wish there was something as exciting as that down here....I will have to do some investigating, as my New Year's Eve is an open book at the moment.

Glasgow are lucky if they have the Divine Comedy. I saw them on Sunday night in Derry, and they are amazing.
