Brand: new shows on BBC Radio 2 and Channel 4's digital spin-off E4

Russell Brand's weekly MTV show is coming off air at the end of the year.

Brand's last edition of 1 Leicester Square for MTV will be a New Year's Eve special, ending an eight-month run for his weekly music and showbiz chatshow.

Since Brand began hosting 1LSQ in April his star has risen, with the comedian and presenter transferring from BBC digital radio station 6Music to Radio 2 and landing his own Friday night entertainment show on Channel 4 digital spin-off E4.

An MTV spokesman said the music broadcaster was keen to work with Brand again in the future, but had nothing in the pipeline at the moment.

MTV lose Brand awareness

Alleged stand-up comic Russell Brand has been dropped by MTV. For the second time.

At the peak of his drug problems, the bouffant one turned up to work just after 9/11 dressed as Osama Bin Laden.

That act has two distinctions. One, it got him sacked for the first time. And two, it's the closest he's ever come to doing anything funny.
