Christmas lights?

My kids are already asking if we can put the outside lights up this weekend as it will be December by then.

When does everyone else like to put theirs up, and what type do you use and when do you take them down. (I hate having them up after new years day) {@}

I saw a house with decorations as early as 2 weeks ago when I was driving home

I put mine up around 10-15 days before christmas and take them down 5th January or thereabouts.

Mine are like clockwork. They go up on the 1st December and go down on the 6th January without fail.

We put ours up the Saturday before Christmas as long as Christmas is at least a week away, otherwise two Saturdays before and take them down on the 2nd Jan. I'm always sick of looking at them by New Year but am usually too hungover too do it on New Years Day.

I usually wait until after my birthday (mid December) and would happily take them down boxing day if I could get away with it ::lol::

I like them late enough to be festive and being to feel excited about things and my family always left it until a week after my brithday with out it getting crowded out.

That said I have just written two christmas cards with letters to post

The town lights went up beginning of last week along with the trees.

There has been a couple of houses around here that have had lights up for weeks.

We used to have a house just down the road that used to put on displays every year and the extra traffic with people coming to look and takes pictures was at times a pain but the displays were great. Last year he did the display in the High Street but I think this years is by the council.

Wellingborough lights get official turned on Friday night by the local radio Djs with entertainment afterwards which means our shopping trip has to be moved.

As I said earlier this month, the lights went up round here at the end of October but were lit up as of last week. The tree on the corner of our street has been up for two weeks but there are houses on a nearby estate that has had there lights turned on for at least a month now.

Ours will be up on Friday.

I'll better think about getting festive lights or something - don't want to miss out...

The Christmas lights get switched on in our village tomorrow night. Just one big tree with lights and a star on top, but it's a real occasion with carol singers and Brownies and all. That's the start of Christmas for me.

Probably won't put any decs up in the house until about the 14th though.

We put the first christmaslights up on 19th of november because the city christmaslights were lit then and the kids begged for it. And because the bulp in their nightlamp had burned off and I couldn't manage to buy a new one... The second lights went up the kitchen window yesterday, and we also drew and cut some elves and decorated the kitchen with them. Today we're baking gingerbreadcookies (that is if my sister wakes up from her nap before I eat all the dough) with the kids... So it's beginning to look a lot like christmas :D

Our neighbourhood puts their Xmas lights in the beginning of the November. I do put them on 1st of December or for the first Advent Sunday. Lights are for kids and their joy. And of course it's a little bit dark over here at the moment (no snow - it melted away) and lights lightens the scenery anyway. Before putting the Xmas lights on, I've used real 'fire' to get some light to the dark Autumn evenings and nights: candles, lanterns and other flames that I don't know what do you call them in English.

We usually put Christmas lights and the like up at the last weekend before Christmas but with the situation being a bit different this year I'm not too sure.

Our town ones have been switched on and it's not strong at the top of the tree yet they've put heaps of lights on so it looks like it's away to topple over! Only here ::lol::

Having gone past this a wee while ago I thought I'd give an update - the Christmas tree seriously looked like it was about to fall over  About a third of it is now sitting horizontally. So bad!
