Crackdown on sex offence suspects looms
Paedophile Crackdown Plan
Members of the public will be able to get details of suspected sex offenders living near them under Home Office proposals.
Ministers revealed plans for "targeted two-way disclosure" of information about child sex offenders.
An outline paper has been published but it lacked details of how the system would work.
The proposals are set to be developed further with input from campaign groups and other experts.
But the Home Office made clear it wanted to make it easier for parents, carers and other responsible adults to find out about suspected perverts in their midst.
The plans will be seen by some as a compromise over calls for a US-style "Megan's Law".
The American legislation grants parents unfettered access to sex offenders' home addresses and other details.
