Russell Brand has revealed that he is on a mission to sort out his crooked teeth.

The 31-year-old comic admits that he has taken to wearing a brace to straighten his teeth when he is not performing on stage or appearing on the telly.

Brand, who was named best newcomer at the British Comedy Awards said: "I wasn't in a position to get braces when I was young."

But Brand says he is encountering a recurring problem in his effort to neaten his pearly whites - he keeps losing his brace gum-shield.

He quipped that he wouldn't be surprise if he discovered his missing braces on eBay.

Glad to hear he got an award. Hadn't realised. Daughter was watching the start of the Awards, and said Jonathan Ross was being 'horrible' about Russell. Saw a couple of minutes myself, was surprised to find myself feeling a bit uncomfortable.

According to The Sun, Brand has to wear a corrective gum-shield to fix his crooked teeth whenever he is not performing.

In a groundbreaking piece of celebrity gossip the controversial comic told the newspaper that he really doesn't like smiling in photographs because he has always hated his teeth and feels so self-conscious.

He also added that it is only now he can do something about it because "I wasn't in a position to get braces when I was young. It was all too hectic."

So there you have it. Inspiration to all you kids out there currently going through the torture of braces: even icons of style as cool as Russell Brand get it done!
