~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1) The all conquering St. Helens team hammering all before them. Not losing a game by more than 4 points all season, and scooping every single trophy available to them. And putting one in the eye of the Southern ra ra press by collecting two awards at the Sports Personality of the Year night. Make mine a treble.
2) Film of the Year for me was Inside Man. Clive Owen is officially ace in ever film that he makes, and it takes a lot to upstage Denzel, but he manages it with ease. A great film, full of surprises, and one to get you thinking back in a Usual Suspects stylee. Wasn't convinced Jodie Foster really added to it tho, which is a shame, as I'm usually a fan.
3) The role of Myspace. I'm not one of those Myspace obsessives, but the role that Myspace has now in making new music available is fantastic. It would appear that the most important thing to make it these days is no longer to snort lines of coke with journalists from IPC publications thankfully. Bands are making it on the basis of good tunes and word of mouth.
4) Getting back with T. More ups and downs than the Big One at Blackpool, but am smiling regularly for first time in 18 months. We'll see how it goes. Long way to go yet.
1) It was only one performance unfortunately but my beloved Rochdale team, having been very poor all season, travelling up to Darlington and stuffing them 5-0 in what was a faultless and fantastic performance with 5 wonderfully worked goals. Watching a team that has never won anything in it's entire existance (100 years as of May), can make you wonder why you bother but it's games like these that make up for weeks on end of garbage. The league game after we were beaten 7-1 by Lincoln.
2) Not seen that many films this year so I'm gonna have to go with something TV based and go with the same one I'd have put down for last year as well, Lost. It's without doubt the greatest show on TV for me and the second series was fantastic. Now that we know more about the island and the characters, there were more standout episodes than the first series and a bigger cliffhanger which I'm looking forward to seeing resolved. Can't wait for the third series now at all.
3) There have been some cracking bands come out this year and some really good albums. The Arctic Monkeys album was amazing and easily the best but given that me and Monkey had been listening to it for most of 2005, I'll give it to someone else. That band being the Fratellis. They came out and gave us an album with a great upbeat feel to it and some very catchy songs. Two of my ten favourite songs of the year are on this album and they look really good live as well. Hope for more from them.
4) You know what's coming here if you've not ignored my ramblings on General Chat which must have been easy to do given how much I went on about it. This year, since the end of January, I've lost 6 stone and 9lb in weight. I've gone down from 18.8 to 11.13 which I believe is the biggest achievement in my entire life and one I'm extremely proud of. I set myself a target early in my regime of 14 stone but that was gone by about July and I've just carried on and got down to a weight I'd never dreamed of ever reaching again. It's brought about an ever so slight improvement in self confidence in the way that I can go into clothes shops and have to mess about with sizes rather than just going to the back of the rails for the XXL's all the time. Very proud of one's efforts in this particular aspect of my life this year.
1: Sporting. Accrington Stanley Getting promoted to League 2. Now im hoping that highlight for 2007 will be them stopping in League 2
2: Flim/TV. Like Mozza I havent really seen many films this year9I think ive only seen 3 at all at the pictures) so im going have to pick a TV show and for me its Lost. Its been great this year and I cant wait for it to come back in February. Other tv shows include Prison Break, Doctor Who and Waterloo Road
3: music. Ive got into a lot of new bands this year, more than i did in 2005 and its really hard to pick a top 1 so im going to choose three. The Feeling, the Fratelles and ive really got into the Scissor Sisters this year as well, and of course other bands that have stuck around include mc Fly and Snow Patrol. New artists include Paolo Nuntini and James Morrison
4: Person. Person highlights include passing my first year uni exams when i didnt think that i would
Morrissey, when you put it down in black and white like that, it was an outstanding achievement.
Sporting, Film/TV or Music highlights:
I'm afraid I don't know enough about any of the above to comment. :oops:
Personal:
There have been a few outstanding memories this year, but the best was:
Seeing a pair of pink socks peeking out from under a blanket, on a trolley emerging from theatre, and realising my daughter had got through the complicated 5-hour operation on her arm o.k. (The brat refused to go into the theatre, unless she could wear her new socks, as she thinks her feet are ugly - they aren't).
the difference in seeing him in the flesh (*so to speak*) is even more so. Very proud of him - let it be said. He's done extremely well. Thought he'd be doing unbelievably well to hit 14 stone. To achieve what he has has been magnificent.
1) I'm not majorly into sports, but Michael Schumacher retiring from Ferrari and F1 was a highlight for me. I wasn't a Schumacher fan, but still respect he was (is) one of the greatest F1 drivers of all time.
The Royal London Watches Grand Prix snooker championship coming to the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre was another because it brought so much interest and tourism to the city. :D
2) I didn't see many this year. :oops:
3) For me it's the reunion of Take That and what they have achieved since.()^
4) Getting married to Martin infront of all our family and friends.
Well done Morrissey, it must be an amazing feeling. I was over the moon when I lost two stone, but that pales alongside your success.
