EXCLUSIVE: NAZ'S MBE KO'D
Jail shame boxer loses award
By Lucy Thornton
DISGRACED boxer Naseem Hamed has been stripped of his MBE.
The former world featherweight champ's honour was revoked following his jail sentence for dangerous driving.
Nobody was available for comment at "Prince" Naz's £3million home. But the boxer's former trainer Brendan Ingle, 66, said: "This will really upset him. He was delighted at receiving the award from the Queen. Afterwards, he was so proud he used to show it to everyone."
Naseem, 32, was jailed for 15 months after crashing his Mercedes SLR McLaren supercar into 39-year-old Anthony Burgin's VW during a "suicidal" 90mph overtaking move. The impact, near Naseem's home in Sheffield, broke every bone in Mr Burgin's body. Naseem was freed from an open jail after serving 16 weeks.
He has now been sent a letter telling him his 1999 honour is revoked.
The Cabinet Office said: "Honours are for people of good character."
