L'oranger (Citrus sinensis) est originaire de Chine. On peut distinguer deux grandes routes de pénétration de ce fruit en Europe. La route méditerranéenne fut empruntée, à l'époque des croisades (XIe siècle-XIIIe siècle), par l'orange amère ou bigarade: transmis par les Perses aux Arabes, ce fruit fut implanté en Sicile, d'où il se diffusa vers le reste de l'Europe. Dans un second temps, au XVIe siècle, les navigateurs Portugais découvrirent l'orange douce en Chine, et la rapportèrent en Europe; son succès finit par évincer l'orange amère. Jusqu'à la première moitié du XXe siècle, l'orange était un fruit de luxe et souvent offert comme cadeau de Noël aux enfants. Sa culture en bac a longtemps été un symbole de pouvoir pour les aristocrates qui lui dédiaient des bâtiments spécialisés : les orangeries.

My French is about as bon as our deputy prime minister's English (though I somehow managed to scrape a good grade in French GCSE). However, ich spreche genug Deutsch to hold a conversation with native German speakers.

I must admit that it has been around 23 years since I left my last French class. I wasn't much good at speaking French but there was a time were even English wasn't easy even with the speech therapy.
But there was a time where i could read out a French passage as if written in English but that was a long time ago and I certainly can't do that any more.

I do listen to a few French artists ,I said once before that we ,at work ,get free picking of such a diverse multi-lingual music genre and sometimes video that were originally left my people returning stuff to a certain manufacturer before work bought it that we've never heard the artists before and a lot of the time you can't even read the labels.
