Ok. Can everyone have a good laugh first {@}

Now that is over and done with I need some help.

I have an Apple Laptop. On New Years Eve, around 4am and after a few too many sherberts, I decided it would be a good idea to send an email, picked up my laptop which had it's charger attached, dropped it and stood on the charger (the bit that goes into the laptop) with high heels on. When sober, I saw that the end of the charger was badly buckled, so took a pair of pliers to it and tried to straighten it out. It seemed to work and the laptop still recharged, albeit only whilst lying on it's side with a heavy book on top lol. Anyway last night, it wouldn't charge at all, so whilst it was still plugged in to the electric socket (I know, I know {@} ), I took the pliers and a screwdriver to it. Sparks flew :eek: and I got a small electric shock from it. I plugged it into the laptop (after I picked myself up from the floor) to see if it would work. :roll: It wouldn't.

Today I went to the Apple shop (and yes I should have done this in the first place) and got a new charger, came home, plugged it in, tried to switch my laptop on and absolutely zilch. Now it still had about 10 minutes of charge in it, before I decided to play at being an electrician, so should have gone on, even if the charger wasn't working, but nada.

My question is (getting to the point at last), would plugging in the duff charger have knackered the laptop or is it possibly unrelated and can anyone tell me if there is anything I can do, before I have to go back to the apple shop and have them fall about laughing at me, at my complete ditziness.

Any advice (apart from 'don't do it again or similar' would be much appreciated.

I am crying for you. :-(

Take it back to the Apple shop.

Also ask Larry. He'll know. I send your ill laptop felicitations from my peaky laptop (the right hand punctuation keys have stopped working-now what's that about?) ${

CT's advice about Larry is spot on...he is a gentleman and a scholar..

Hope you get it sorted Ellie.

I've had some experience of sending an e-mail in similar circumstances..although in my case, the problem occurred the following day, when I had to ask myself 'Did I really say that?'

The most likely thing is that when you damaged the charger plug you also damaged the socket where the charger goes into.

There are two possibilities

1. The socket itself is damaged.
2. Where the socket is soldered to the board in side has come away.

Both are fixable though these days you'll probably have to replace the small board where the socket should be fixed to. A lot of manufacturers these days won't supply the board because it a power supply board even though in both cases it's a simple repair ,once they get the laptop to bits.

Take it along to the computer shop and explained that you'd tripped on the charger cable hence why you had to replace the charger and see what they say. If the socket has come away from the board it would also explain why it hasn't switched the battery back in with the plug removed . As I said unless the board is broken it should be possible to repair it without too much fuss.

All back and working now thankfully. It has had a new DC board, whatever that is. Thanks for your assistance and good wishes. Now my only concern is how I can ever face the Apple man again, as I didn't delete my history before playing with electricity and he is looking at me now with a knowing smirk on his face. Serves me right for looking at all those naughty bondage websites. {@} :angel:

And btw Bboop, thanks for whatever it was you did too. :D @^@

What was it again?

Ah yes, called me stupid. :eek:

The DC board is the bit with the power socket on where the charger plugs in.

Glad it's working again.
