Attacks at station double since 2002
Wimbledon train station is the sixth most dangerous in the country, according to shocking new crime figures.
The British Transport Police (BTP) statistics reveal the number of attacks at Wimbledon station has almost doubled in the past five years, rising to 39 in the last financial year, up from 20 in 2001/02.
Wimbledon station proved more unsafe even than Clapham Junction, Europe's busiest station which ranks seventh nationally, with 35 attacks last year.
Assaults at Wimbledon station in the past year include a savage brawl between 20 youths in May, when one 16-year-old boy was found unconscious on a platform. He was taken to hospital suffering from a puncture wound to the cheek and an ear injury and later released.
And in June,
Big Brother star Saskia Howard-Clarke was arrested after she allegedly threw her shoe at a man's head at the station, causing bleeding. She was let off with a police caution.
