RECORD pantomime crowds have helped Glasgow theatres rake in more than £2.6million this season.

The Pavilion and King's theatres expect to make £1.3m each by the time the curtains fall on their last shows.

Peter Pan, starring former Big Brother winner Cameron Stout and Radio Clyde's Dean Park, has been playing at the Pavilion two shows a day, six days a week, since November 29.

Each performance has been packed with excited youngsters and theatre boss Iain Gordon estimates at least 100,000 people will have joined in the fun by the time the show closes on January 27.

Two of our party couldn't in all honesty be described as 'youngsters', but we all thought that it was excellent. A really enjoyable evening. People of all ages in the capacity audience, and everyone having fun. Well done Cameron on being as professional as....Johnny Depp!

Panto's Pan of gold

IT'S been the most successful Pavilion panto ever.

This year's Peter Pan, starred Dean Park, River City's Stephen Purdon and Laura McMonagle, Cameron Stout of Big Brother and Sean Scanlan, produced the best-ever box office receipts.

Pavilion boss Iain Gordon revealed the panto takings are £329,000 up on last year, with a total box office figure of £1.3million with more than 100,000 taking in the show.

The previous best figure for a panto - the Krankies' Jack and the Beanstalk at Christmas 2004 - has been beaten by £122,000.

Mr Gordon said: "Somehow I felt it was going to be a good year.

"We gathered a really good cast, a great mix of someone for everybody, covering all the age groups and we spent a fortune on a fabulous light show and stage set.

"But what we have achieved in terms of takings at the till is nothing short of amazing.

"If you give Glasgow audiences a good show they will turn out in their thousands."
