A question - Why does the temperature rise before it snows ?

It's now -1C and still rising.

We had a slight covering of snow overnight, then the sun came out, it disappeared, and now it's sleeting.

No snowman for me. :-(

We had a good two inches of snow overnight which made the journey to work this morning very interesting.
Had a hell of a job getting out of the drive then it was a very slow journey. I was pushing cars up the hill outside the house at one point as they were just sitting spinning.

I have some pictures that I took around 8am this morning which I'll go through in a while.

It's still snowing.

Numbers wise lowest temperature was -1.7C which was before the snow. Daytime high was 2.2C. And currently it's 1.4C.

The barometer has been as low as 987mb but is now 989mb.

The rain gauge is showing 1mm.

Wind direction is East (090 Degrees).

By 1600 (4PM) the back road was clear and it was only in the last part of the return journey I encountered any snow. This estate is still well covered and it's all uphill coming home and downhill going out.
So once it freezes tonight it's going to be hell again.

The heavy stuff is holding off here. Has just been a light spray since dinner time, all the roads are fine.

It's quite common fact of the nature over here as well. I guess that it's something to do with air pressure and when it gets warmer (when the frost gets milder) it'll snow (I guess it's low pressure that's coming) and when the frost gets more bitter the weather will be clear (high pressure) and there's not snow falling at all.

This morning it was -31 degrees over here. And a beautiful sunny winter day - lovely. Need to wear sunglasses!

The morning started off icy with the frozen snow / slush but it soon started sleeting and raining.

Overnight low was -1.8C ,daytime high was 2.7C. Currently it's 2.4C.

The Barometer has been as low as 997mb and as high as 1004mb. Right now it's 1000mb.

8mm of rain has been recorded.

Wind direction is almost East (088 degrees).

We still have snow / slush on paths and some side roads which with the rain are really slippery.

Looks like most of the snow on the ice on the pond has melted but the lower lawn is still completely covered in snow. Shame the IR lamps on the camera looking up the garden have failed as it would look good with the snow. The pond cam makes the lower lawn look like it's daylight.

In a little over 12 hours we've had 11mm rain which along with higher temperatures has melted all but compacted snow. The only remaining snow I've seen this morning are either complete snowmen or the remains of snowmen.

There's still ice in the pond but that's slowly melting.
Temperature currently is 6.4C.

I was hoping it would dry up a bit so could go to the local wildlife park as the lakes are busy with bird life ,but as I don't have a waterproof jacket for the main video camera ,which is the preferred camera ,I might have to take the Digicam on the off change plus it can be put into a deep pocket if it rains. Or call it off all together.

Crazy temperatures.
They continued to rise to a high of 8.3C just under and hour ago. Last night's low was 2.7C.

It has also continued to rain and I now have 5mm recorded for today.

The Barometer is falling and currently reads 993mb.

Wind Direction is approx. South-East (129 Degrees).

More rain and increasing temperatures.

Another 5mm rain overnight plus temperatures have continued to rise. They were 9.3C at 6am then fell back a degree. They are on the rise again at 9.4C and it's sunny despite the dark clouds to the North.

"A lovely sunny day" sums today very well.
Overcast to begin with but the the clouds cleared and we've had clear Blues skies for at least 4 hours.
And we with reached double figures with 10.5C.
