Yes there's a weather warning for the North-Eastern part of Scotland for heavy snow.

Check the Met-Office Website for more details.

There don't seem to be any now but it's literally not stopped raining today so maybe there's been a change in forecast.

There were a couple of years where I was obsessed with that website  It was so odd, can't really explain it - I didn't even really care what the weather was like!

The warnings were on the left most map so they must have been for yesterday (Sunday).

We've had almost 2 days of rain totaling almost 20mm which cleared early Sunday to get a great day compared to recent ones. Sunny with Blue skies for a change. Hope it soon clears up there.

On the Winter so far there are some interesting stats for December / January comparing the Norm to actual figures. I'll go through them and post the numbers on here when I get a chance. They really do show how much extra rain the whole of the UK has had in the last couple of months plus the temperatures all being above normal. But there is a bit about the predicted conclusion to the Winter over the next 4 weeks or so and it could have more cold snaps with snow into March. More later.

More rain this end as well.

Nighttime low was 7C ,Daytime high was 10.9C. Currently it's 7.5C.

The Barometer has been as low as 979mb but has recovered to 991mb.

9mm of rain has been recorded so far today.

Wind direction is approx. West-South-West (244 Degrees).

So far this winter the the UK as a whole has seen 2 to 3 times the normal rainfall. When broken down I think it's Wales has seen the biggest increase with around 4 times normal.

Take look HERE for a more detailed report on the Winter so far.

Look HERE for the latest updated forecast for the rest of the Winter.

Today was very warm for the time of year topping out at 16.9C.

Temperature is holding up quite well at 10C.

Between 27th Feb and 6th March I saw more than 50mm of rain. A lot of the river valley is still flooded (see the pictures in the general section). At it's peak there was flood warnings for more than 30 miles of the River Nene.

I'm told the arches where the river flows under the bridges had water almost to the top. And the water was very close to flooding the roads in a number of places.

The Caravan park at Billing Aquadrome was evacuated when a serve flood warning was issued.
Back in the floods of Easter 1998 the residents of the park had to be rescued by the army and some were air-lifted out as the water rose. So this time they took no chances any got everybody out before anything happened.

Snow forecast early next week

Arctic winds set to cause spring chill

Forecasters at the Met Office are predicting a stark change to very cold weather for early next week as Arctic winds bring snow to northern and eastern areas of the UK. In marked contrast to the warm start to March, the cold snap will see temperatures plummet by as much as 10 °C, with many areas seeing overnight frosts.

The Met Office is predicting a short period of significant snowfall for northern parts of Britain, with some lying snow even at low levels. Meanwhile, sleet, snow and hail showers along the eastern side of the country will replace the recent warm and settled weather.

Doug Mansfield, Chief Forecaster at the Met Office, said, “The cold snap could catch people unawares after the warm start to spring. The northerly winds will bring wintry showers and a bitterly cold feel to the weather for a time early next week, before temperatures recover again later in the week.”

Snow and ice forecast for early next week - update

A marked change to very cold weather for later this weekend is still forecast by the Met Office. Strong Arctic winds will bring a sharp drop in temperature and a risk of snow and ice to some areas of the UK into next week.

The snow is most likely to affect northern and exposed western and eastern parts of the UK, with up to 3 cm possible at low levels. Upland areas could see up to 15 cm of snow, especially at night-time. Typical daytime temperatures in the south will be 7 °C by Monday, with around 4 °C in the north, with widespread sharp frosts by night.

Bob Wilderspin, Chief Forecaster at the Met Office, said: "Exposed places in the north and west will see the heaviest snow showers at first, with eastern areas becoming more at risk by Wednesday. Overnight, ice will be an additional hazard in the affected areas."
Many central and inland areas will avoid the worst of the snow showers, with overnight frosts being the main feature of the weather here. The cold snap is expected to last into the middle part of next week, before temperatures start to recover later in the week.

Warning ,Valid from ,Valid to

Heavy Snow 0600 Sun 18 1200 Wed 21

The Met Office continues to predict a significant change to much colder conditions during Sunday. Strong to gale northerly winds will bring frequent snow showers to many coastal regions of the UK, especially in the north, and will continue through to Wednesday. There is also a risk of showers merging together at times to bring more prolonged spells of hail and snow to some inland areas as well, with central and western parts of England and Wales being affected early Monday morning. For this the risk of disruption in the heart of England has been increased from less than 20 percent to 40 percent. From Tuesday into Wednesday, the greatest risk will transfer to eastern districts. Falls of 2-5cm will occur at low levels, 10-15cm mainly on higher routes. Most of the snow at low levels will melt during the day, but may freeze into ice by night. Winds gusting to 65mph will lead temporary blizzard conditions and drifting of lying snow in Scotland and higher routes in Northern England and Wales. This could cause disruption to travel networks, especially across higher-level routes. This warning will be updated around 1100 Sunday 18th March 2007.

Issued at: 1132 Sat 17 Mar
