'American Idol' makes blogger go on hunger strike

An internet blogger has vowed to go on hunger strike until ‘American Idol’ contestant, Sanjayah Malakar, is voted off the show.

The female, known only as ‘J’, vowed to keep up the hunger strike until the controversial American Idol contestant was voted off. There had been concern when the female (who updated her blog daily) didn’t update it for a few days,

However the author has recently posted saying that she is “Weak…(but) not at the point of hospitalisation yet”.

With US shock jock Howard Stern behind him and a whole host of websites keeping up the Sanjayah crusade, it doesn’t look like he’ll be leaving anytime soon.

Sanjaya's `Idol' run not India's fault

NEW DELHI - So much for the Indian Call Center Theory: Under-talented singer Sanjaya Malakar's unlikely wave of "American Idol" support apparently isn't coming from his father's homeland.

Indians are usually attuned to the successes of their compatriots abroad. But apart from a few brief newspaper articles, at least one short TV news segment and a few blog mentions, the reedy 17-year-old with the unsteady voice is a virtual unknown here.

One reason is that the show is broadcast a day late in India, and on an English-language channel that attracts relatively few viewers in this country of 1.1 billion.

"He's also an object of ridicule," said Amit Varma, who runs the popular India Uncut blog.

Gina Glocksen Voted Off 'American Idol'

NEW YORK Apr 5, 2007 (AP)— Gina Glocksen, who had her share of good and bad "American Idol" moments, kissed the show goodbye Wednesday, becoming the latest casualty in viewer voting. The exit of Glocksen, 22, of Naperville, Ill., trimmed the number of finalists to eight. The winner will be chosen in May.

Judge Randy Jackson had said on Tuesday's program that Glocksen the show's resident rocker girl, with her red highlights and all-black outfits gave a "nice, controlled performance" of the classic song "Smile."

His colleague Simon Cowell, who has griped that Glocksen was not in the same league as other finalists, sported a frown.

LULU'S IN WITH A SHOUT
Singer eyes mentor role after American Idol stint
By Rick Fulton

LULU has claimed she'd happily ditch her singing career to become a reality TV voice coach after her stint on American Idol.

The Scots legend was a guest mentor for the girls last month and also performed her 1967 American No.1 hit To Sir With Love.

And the 58-year old admitted: "I could quite easily give up the day job and do mentoring all the time.

"I really did get very passionate about it.

"I had a ball and loved working with all the girls, mentoring them."

Lulu regrets that she "missed out" tutoring the "boys" - that job was handled by her fellow Sixties' star Peter Noone of Herman's Hermits. dailyrecord

Sanjaya Malakar Holds An Indian Sign Over American Idol
American Idol’s song whisperer, is at the centre of a plot.

As the Enquirer asks: “Is Simon behind a conspiracy to keep the clownish contestant on the show.”

Sanjaya’s clown is no Marcel Marceau – if only. Nor is he a hooting Harpo Marx. Sanjaya’s clown has a voice. If you listen hard and turn up the volume on your TV set, you can almost make out Sanjaya singing.

Many believe the noise is good. Some equate the listening experience to being tossed in a windowless cell and forced to drink a pint of President Ahmadinejad’s urine.

But all know for a fact is that Sanjaya is good for American Idol’s ratings. And that is what the show is all about.

Says a source: “The public is bored. FOX network executives are pressuring the producers to do something more exciting. So they are trying to get Sanjaya to do crazy things.”

To date these crazy things have centred on Sanjaya putting his long hair up or down, sometimes at the same time.

It is a simple trick that is working well. The show is attracting a huge audience and being talked about.

But it cannot last.

Sanjaya is American Idol’s Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards, the enthusiastic amateur flailing in a sea of talent. It is Sanjaya’s essential lack of talent that makes him attractive. The problem for Sanjaya, like Eddie, will come when he is made to perform on his own and the audience realises that he really is rubbish. And they can do rubbish as well as the next man.

Sanjaya needs context. And his peers are fast disappearing as each week another singer – miles better than Sanjaya - is voted off the show.

At the end Sanjaya will be the No.1, standing at the top of a long ski jump to oblivion... anorak

Idol star sweeps country awards

Underwood also performed at the ceremony in Nashville, Tennessee
American Idol star Carrie Underwood has scored a double win at the Country Music Television awards in Nashville.

The singer picked up video of the year and female video of the year for her revenge anthem Before He Cheats.

Director Roman White also won a prize for the video, which sees Underwood smashing up a car with a baseball bat.

Kenny Chesney was awarded best male video for You Save Me, while Rascal Flatts topped the group video category with What Hurts The Most.

17-year-old Taylor Swift captured the breakthrough video prize for her hit single Tim McGraw.

The song tells the story of a couple who fall in love to a McGraw song, break up and are reminded of each other whenever they hear the tune.

Johnny Cash's daughter Rosanne presented the Johnny Cash Visionary Award to Kris Kristofferson.

The singer-songwriter paid tribute to Cash backstage, telling reporters: "He stood up for me when a lot of people didn't".

Comedian Jeff Foxworthy hosted the show, and paid tribute to the 32 victims of the shootings at Virginia Tech university.

"We want those people to know in the days and weeks going forward that you are going to be in the hearts and minds of everyone in the country music community," he said. BBC
